Default Nice beach in western France

Sable d'Olonne will fit the bill. Nice beaches, good seafood restaurants.
Not too expensive.

Glad to hear it all worked out for you at Bretignolles.
We stayed at La Chaume, opposite side of the river from
Sables proper, it was also off season and very quiet,
had an apartment for two weeks. The Vendee has a whole is a very
intersting part of France,

Mixi and scRunge are the only two Frenchmen who cannot afford an annual
August holiday...
