What are your interests? Art, history, architecture, archeology,
ancient Rome, the Middle Ages, food, wine, fashion, cities, small
towns, countryside, or some mix of those?

How much time do you have?

What is your budget?

What time of year do you plan to go? Keep in mind that most of Italy
does get cold in the winter.

I spent 3 weeks traveling around Italy this spring. We used a 3-day
Eurail pass, used local trains and buses but
the best way to see the Tuscan region is by car. We rented a Mercedes
for about 300 Euros for 8 days. Before
leaving home we made hotel reservations through venere.com for about 4
different locations then played the rest by ear.
We also spent about 3 days on Cinque Terre on the Ligurian coast-very
quaint and beautiful.

We found the Italians to be helpful, fun and very interested in
Americans and our way of life.
