It seems that I have answered. The polemics over French safety rules is
a bad one. None of these rules have led to catastrophic situation, on
the contrary. That a journal as the Times tries to make a big buzz on
this issue is pointless. The train safety record in France is very good,
and that of the high speed trains is excellent. So questionning the
rules in usage is at best a loss of time and at worst a very biaised
attitude...

Quote me on this one. I have never said that. And never though this way.
Criticisms are acceptable and beneficial when they deal with a real
issue, but not when they are pointless.

I thought the whole point is that new mechanisms are being made to make things
safer. It makes me wonder why if the system is so safe already.

There is a real issue, France can't deliver their safety system on time to their
Dutch customers.

... First it is a matter of prority. Second, it is a matter of questionning
... rules that have prooved over years to allow both a reliable and secure
... service to passenger trains, third it is a matter of trying to find
... problems where there is none (preferentially as we say in the head of
... others!), fourth a matter of technical competence. As a French person I
... would not discuss the quality of the English language of native English
... speakers.
