Default average weather in Athens and Santorini in October?

We're thinking of a week + in Greece for our next vacation. I'm
thinking early to mid October, as the worst of the summer tourist
crowd will be gone and the serious summer heat will have dissipated.
But I don't want it to be TOO cold; part of our plan is to lay on the
beach at Santorini for several days, swim in the Aegean, etc. What
weather should I expect in October? Thanks as always.

... I was in Athens last December (i.e. winter) and I thought it was delightful.
... Coat weather but fine and pleasant.

How many degrees, exactly?
You are used to warm weather - I bet 20-25°C is "coat weather" for you.

... That was sort of my point, really. I ought to be averse to cold weather
... after a decade in the tropics but no, 20-25 deg. C. would be superb
... anywhere.
...
... However, Athens in December 2006 was around 7-11 deg. C. according to my
... notes but sunny and clear. Not swimming weather but a nice walking climate.
... Took the coat off walking up to Lykavittos.

For the record, Paris last December was closer to 25°C than to 11°C...

... Human memory seems to be at its worst when recalling recent weather.
...
... According to Weather Underground, average maximum temperature in Paris
... reached a pleasant 14 deg. C on 4 December 2006 and a positively balmy 16
... deg. C on 5 December.

I'll tell that to the people I met then, who were wondering if we were going to spend
Christmas by the pool... I know I was wearing a short sleeved t-shirt by mid-December.

... Other days ranged from 0 deg. C (26 and 28 December) to 13 deg. C (31
... December).

It should be snowing since October!! Damn humans...
