Has anyone been able to get tickets to a performance at La Scalla (in
Milan) prior to travelling to Italy? If so, what's involved, what did
they cost, and are they normally sold out far in advance?
Thanks,

It's been a few years, but our experience was the La Scala sells out quite
quickly -- as soon as the season goes on sale. We obtained tickets through
our concierege but, of course, there was a significant premium involved. As
I recall, the tickets cost us around $200 to $250 US each (counting the
premium charged by the seller), i.e. comparable to the Met in New York.

Absolutely. Scala is quite an experience, beyond the quality of the
performance. It was quite a memorable experience.

If you want to buy the tickets online
you will see that prices are much lower than you say..
or at least they start at a much lower price.
you can also choose yr preferred place.. and so on.
Today I was checking.. and saw that Don Giovanni is sold out
I mean all the Don Giovanni performances are sold out
so just have a look and hurry if you are interested..

Thanks. Seems there are lots of opera fans on this newsgroup. On our
last trip to France I bought tickets at the Bastille at the last minute
by bargaining with some men selling their tickets at the door. The seats
were about five rows from the stage, and it was a wonderful performance
of Carmen. I won't try that at La Scalla, however.
