Default Suggestions for day hikes in Central/Southern Germany

Thanks, folks!

Lots of useful information there. I was considering doing a day in
Füssen or Garmisch Partenkirchen and then maybe onto Lindau or
Konstanz. Are those good places? Again, I am still pretty open as far
as where I end up and have not ruled out other places either (the above
mentioned area in Franconia looks interesting).

Lindau/Konstanz area is mainly a big bicycling area, rather flat and to
spread out for an enjoyable walk with lots of stuff to see.

Garmish is a big walking place goto the info center for map also do a
search on the web for garmish hiking and you will find some good
descriptions of the various paths.

I plan on going to that area on October 22 or 23, and I am leaning
towards Garmisch, however the weather may be the big wild card
regarding hiking, etc. Is the Zugspitze worth going to at that time of
the year? I have been looking at their webcams and today looks
beautiful up there, but I obviously don't want to go if it is rainy or
cloudy. My first (and only to date) experience with Bavaria was in high
school in October 1991 and it was rainy and cloudy the whole time I was
there and the mountains were not really visible, so I'll need to find
an alternative should that be the situation.

Was there the start of last month and for most purposes was worthless
because it rained the whole time. Whileout a car to get around to some
of the castle it is not much fun.

The zugspitze is worthless in bad weather because it will be covered in
clouds

Default Suggestions for day hikes in Central/Southern Germany

Threespeed,

There's a lot to see in South Germany. Personally, I recommend the
Mosel River area
around Bern-Kastel and Zell... One of the most
beautiful regions in Germany(Wine Region).

Volksmarching(hiking) in these areas is a way
of life for Germans and the trails through the
forrests are spectacular. Plus you can enjoy
some of the greatest wines(mostly white) and
food on the planet!! The views all around this
area are breathtaking(rolling hills, steep vinyards, and of course the
river). The people
are very hospitable and laid back.

For me the Garmisch area is too full of tourist
even though it is also a beautiful area. The
Mosel offers a combination of peaceful with
small urban environments...Go for it!! ....and
strike-up a conversation with a local and they
will give you a weath of information about this
gorgeous inviting area!!

Good Luck und Aufwiedersehen!!!

Patrick
