Default late dinners?

I recently went to Greece, and found that most people seemed to eat
later dinners - around 10pm (22:00) or so. I am going to Croatia and
Italy soon - and wondered if it was the same in those countries? I
only ask because I have several late arrivals on flights as well as
ferries. Thanks.

In the southern european countries most people have late dinners. An
most of the kitchens of restaurants are also opened late

in my limited experience, they tend to open fairly late. The
restaurants near where we normally stay in Stara Novalja on Pag start
getting busy around 8:30 ish and go on till midnight or so.

Well, you can usually get a seating by 8 in "big cities" but it
won't necessarily be every place, and the places that do might not
be where one wants to eat.

Hmmmm. Just got back from there. 9:00 pm even in extremely
small villages, seemed to be a common starting time. We usually
found our way around 9:30. We'd be offered seating times at
hotels as early as 8, but turn them down.

Not just late dinners, social life in general takes place late. In rural
Italy it's normal to see people walking around with small children at
midnight.

Now the Paradors are very accommodating. And in Ronda we found a place
called Tragabuches that was exceptional. Now I will admit we were about
done before anyone else came in. The folks and the food were great though.

You can get meals both in Croatia and in Italy until 23 pm - midnight -
that's when most of the restaurants close.
