Croatia to Athens?

Padraig is correct -- this comes up occasionally and there is never an
answer. Remember, this is the Balkans. The parts that were in the Ottoman
Empire never did develop a good train network (the Austrian controlled areas
did somewhere better). During Communism there wasn't much need--Greece was a
capitalist nation, after all. They've been free from that for 15 years now,
but then there was that war to content with.....
I'm sure it's possible to do it by bus, but it would be piecemeal. For
example, there is no bus from Dubrovnik to its near neighbor, Montenegro.
You'd have to change at the border. And then the country of Macedonia
(FYROM) is not recognized by Greece because it stole the name Macedonia...
Maybe someday they'll stop squabbling with each other long enough to realize
it makes economic sense to have good transportation corridors.
