| | Guest | Athens to Mykonos Hello:
I will be travelling for the first time to Greece. My first stop is, of
course, Athens. From there I will be going to Mykonos by ferry. I think
they call it hydrofoil.
Two questions:
Where in Athens do I board the Hydrofoil? My hotel in Athen is located
on Kaningos Square.
What is the best way to get to the harbor?
Approximately how long is the trip to Mykonos on this ferry?
Thanks in advance for your help?

Do you already have a booking, or are you going to do this when you
arrive?
The hydrofoil leaves from the port of Pireus. The best way to get there
is by taxi, as the taxi driver will know which of the many docks the
hydrofoil ("Flying Dolphin") leaves from.
I haven't travelled to Mykonos that way myself, but I'd guess about 4
hours. It's a fast but unpleasant way to travel - bumpy, noisy, and
badly ventilated. Mykonos is wonderful, though!

For someone who doesn't know exactly where they're going I don't
recommend this, to be honest. I've taken ferries from Pireus more times
than I can count, and I wouldn't do it. Pireus is a very big port, with
lots of little separate areas, and wandering around lost with a
suitcase, while your ferry departs, is not a load of fun.

I took that ferry from Santorini to Mykonos last summer. It was smooth,
quiet and has plenty of air.

That should be in 1960 I guess.
Nowadays it costs 1,40-1.50 euros. | |
