St. Petersburg to Moscow.

I have a friend who is flying into Moscow to take a river cruise to St.
Petersburg. She can't get an open jaw to fly back from St. Petersburg.
What's the best way for her to go from St. Petersburg back to Moscow?
Train or flight?

Flights are cheap, but getting to the airport can cost a mint.

I'd take the brand new train instead, a bit on the expensive side
compared to older trains, but a pleasant surprise (for once!) in
Russia.

It is not that bad. There is a free shuttle between airports, you will
need to ask for it, and then may have to wait a bit. A taxi (a minibus
that may take several travellers together) should not be more than 900
roubles (~33$).

this train goes from St. Petersburg to Moscow? If so how to get from
Moscow train station to the airport?

We used the train from ST Pete to Moscow last July, and loved it. We
had our hotel in St Pete get the tickets and we booked a sleeper for 4,
cost was around $50.00 (?) as it turned out we were alone in the car. We
wanted the day train, it takes a bit longer, so we could enjoy the
countryside. As far as we are concerned We will take the trains in
Russia rather than again face the crowds at the domesrtic airport.

Whatever the cost Im sure it was cheaper, and as I recall the problems
getting to and from the airport, it may even have been faster.

Underground to Planernaya (change once) and bus.
