Default International flights transfer time

I'm noticing that the flight I'm eyeing for travel to the UK in April
has only one hour between our local connecting flight and the
departure of the international portion of the flight. Is this enough
time for getting through screening, etc. for an international flight?
This is a United Airlines flight out of San Francisco to Heathrow.

Thanx

You're taking an enormous risk of missing the connection.

You only need to strike one difficult security person, or
one longer-than-usual queue and you're in big trouble.
That's without any other matters like baggage transfer (if
you are with a different airline) and the physical time
between terminals and gates.

Plan an earlier flight for the connector - or a later one
for the international. Others may have different opinions,
but I'd allow no less than three hours. I'd only allow less
if the connecting flight happens to be on the same airline
(United), as they may have special arrangements including
checked-through baggage and expedited security.

Cheers, Alan, Australia

You might set your mind at ease by calling the airline(s) in question. My
experience has been that you and the bags are screened and cleared for the
international flight at your point of origin. This is not to say that if you
are moving a carry on to the next flight that it won't be checked at the
next gate but you won't be going to the ground side of security at SFO. Be
certain to check your bags all the way through at the point of origin
regardless of the airline but if United this is particularly a no brainer.
Take lots of money,
Regards, s
