Winter travel in Greece? or other place in Europe? "Do you know a good place in Europe to visit in winter?"
Only Portugal or the Andalucia region of Southern Spain.
Everywhere else is too cold...unless you want a winter-focused vacation
(e.g. skiing or Christmas markets or a New Year's festival)
"We plan to visit Athens and Santorini. Is it a good time to visit
Greece in the winter?"
Santorini will be freezing and windy, and forget about the beach.
Don't waste your time and money to visit it in the winter. Athens is
really not worth the trip by itself, and will also be cold.
"Is public transportation convenient in the winter?"
In Greece, the ferries between islands and between the mainland and
islands are far less frequent in the winter. Assuming that you still
wanted to go to Santorini, you could get there from Athens easily, but
it might be difficult to go from Santorini or Athens to some of the
smaller islands. I would assume that most public transportation on the
Greek mainland remains active in the winter. In the rest of Europe,
public transportation is fine in the winter.
"Do most places, hotels ,museums and tourist attractions, open between
Christmas and New year?"
Hotels remain open. Museums and tourist attractions usually close 1-3
days each for Christmas and New Years, but tend to remain open for
December 27-30. |
