Default Swiss New Year Celebrations?

Hi all,

Does anybody know how the New Year is celebrated in these 3 swiss
cities:

Zurich
Lucerne
Bern

And which one of the above 3 is worth it to attend to!

Thanks,
Max

I vistied both Zurich and Lucerne, alas for just a day for both of
them. We'll be crossing over from Germany through Basel and we'll be
staying for about 3 nights somewhere near one of the above cities.

Are the shops open on 2nd January and where's the best shopping center?

Max

I've been near Berne a few times for New Year. Compared to Germany or
France there is not so much fireworks (they save that for their national
holiday on the 1st of August) in the night. Sometimes people do fancy-dress
parties in the night, and there is some fireworks and big fires high up on
the mountains. Often people go out to pubs or Restaurants, where they
normally offer big menus, with some live-music playing (reservation
required), going like from 8 pm to 1 or 2 am.

But don't expect anything like London or Paris.

Regards,

Frank

I was thinking of going a couple of days to Paris for New Year... How
are the celebrations there?

Will need to find a hotel somewhere around paris though. I'd rather go
there for a few days....

Is the Champs area the best place or the Eiffel??

I do live in Germany (but not German)... after so many new year
celebrations here, I'd like something different this time :)
