And if Virgin had not made this offer, would you have been delighted,
or would you have complained that they should have done so, since it
wouldn't cost them anything?

Although, as was mentioned in here last week, the extra electricity that
Virgin will use transporting these extra passengers isn't particularly
significant.

BACKBONE and not the metatarsal of the country ;-)

Yea just to reiterate my original thought that in an increasingly cynical
world the Virgin Trains decision will have made a REAL difference to at
least some unfortunates who were left hi and dry today.

Once again IF it was a unilateral VT decison then Full Marks VT and even if
it only gaiins them a single repeat journey it should be recognized as some
form of REAL management rather than the usual "Safe" stuff that appears to
be taught in Business Schools everywhere these days.

But what if the "gamble" resulted in a significant long-term increase
in WCML passengers from air, and thus increased income and decreased
the number of flights being operated domestically? Benefit for the
taxpayer and the environment?

And if they *don't* think that?

XC Carlisle/Glasgow to Manchester? then change onto the WC for Euston? Or
isn't that what they mean by their rule?

Sounds good to me... But would we see an increase or lengthening of WC
services as a result?

I think this will depend on whether air passengers are *ever* allowed to
take a laptop (or other electrical items) as hand baggage. It's not just
the hassle, danger of loss and damage etc, but will add half an hour to
each end of the journey.
