Default Airtran baggage fees

Well here is another airline that jumped on the baggage fee
bandwagon. I guess I will stick with Southwest until they give in.
Atleast they could offer cheap air then add-on all the fees. Pretty
soon it will probably be cheaper to ship your stuff to your
destination. I can imagine the overheads now and the people fighting
trying to carry on all their stuff. This is my last time for Airtran
since I am under the old rule for this trip to WDW. Unfortunate for
me I live in a terrible Pittsburgh Air Market. Amy

Could Southwest at some point start charging extra fees after they've
been running ad after ad talking about how they are the only ones not
to charge fees? I know Albertsons or Safeway ran ads for a long time
talking about how they didn't require a card for you to get the sale
prices and then rolled out their own card program so I guess it's
possible. Would not be great for the corporate image though, and
that's something Southwest seems to really have going for it. I know a
lot of people, well ok, I know a few people, who really like
Southwest. Personally, I go with whoever will get me there for the
least $$$ when it's all said and done. No allegiance to any particular
carrier.

That used to be my philosophy as well. Unfortunately for that
philosophy, USAir was usually the cheapest by a matter of $10-$15 or
so. After one too many horrendous experiences on USAir, I decided to
drop them and actually start looking into the airlines for reasons
other than pure $$. Once I did that, Southwest became a no-
brainer. Only one that offers me direct flights from ALB to MCO,
genuinely happy and pleasant employees, price they quote is the price
you get, no tiny closet-sized planes, and a simplistic buy-8-get-1-
free frequent flier program.

Should be pretty soon--
Although the airlines are still using "Dropped schedules causing more
crowded planes" as alibi for prohibitive fees, which they think should
continue rippling through the holiday seasons.

(Although on the last trip on American, I'd jammed everything into one
carry-on sized duffel bag, only to discover that getting my ticket
online had entitled me to one free "bonus" no-charge luggage check...
"When did THAT happen??" I'd asked the counter rep.)

Default Airtran baggage fees

After reading about the checked bag fee on Airtran, I went to their
website because we made our Disney reservations a few weeks ago, for
February, and if the ticket was booked before a certain date, it looks
like there is no fee for bags (hope that's true). But the issue of
people cramming stuff into the overheads is a pain! We will all have
carryon (boys bring toys, snacks, etc. and I bring the computer and we
all take at least a change of clothing, toothbrush, etc. in case
luggage is lost or held up).
