But... if you had done that, and still wanted a trip this year, you
could borrow 2009-10 points into this year. The result woule be the
same as 'not banking' this year's points except:
- if your plans change, you can't bank the borrowed points; and
- managing your points this way will give you a headache.

banking and borrowing in both directions across two years seems like the
sort of loophole that DVC likes to avoid. Are you sure there's no rule
preventing it?

I would envision this practice only being used when someone's plans
went awry - you bank your points then realize you need to take a trip
right now. I'm not aware of any rules against this but, it could be
there. | |

Actually, I've done this most years. There's no rule against it.
Almost always I'll bank the rest of my points, then the opportunity
will arise to book a relatively last minute trip near the end of my
use year. So, no big deal - I just borrow the points from the next
year.

To clarify... you can't borrow the points you banked. This can get
confusing.
If I have 100 points left in 2008 that I don't plan to use, I can bank
them into 2009. I then decide I want to take a trip in 2008, I can
borrow 2009 points to use for that trip. The 2008 points I banked,
stay in the 2009 use year. (Now my head does hurt)

To answer Caren's question, it's not as complicated as it sounds...
but I agree, it's sounds very complex.
Your example is correct... you can only bank points once. They then
must be used in the year in which they were banked.
Yes, there are rules but, I don't have them memorized. You can bank
100% of your points up to a point that's n(3?) months before the end
of your use year. The perentage that you can bank then drops
gradually.
If you cancel inside of 30 days, those points are put into a Holding
account and must be used within n (3 again?) months.
In practice, I've never had to concern myself with any of that - and I
typically borrow or bank every year.
