OK, Jack. A lesson in borscht belt geography. One would try out new
material in the Catskills. In the Adirondacks, one dodges bear,
coyote, snakes, black flies and mosquitoes while soaking up the
majesty of green mountains and clear blue lakes - and playing golf,
drinking scotch, etc. | |

So where in the Adirondacks were you? Anywhere near Schroon Lake? | |

| | Guest | August 2008 Stats hey, steve!
My grandparents owned a house on Rainbow Lake for 40 years that they sold
just after the 1980 Olympics. We still go to that lake in the summer
because we still know families there. I ate in Saranac for dinner one night
at Morgan's (pizza place, I think that was the name), and lunch one day at
the Blue Moon Cafe. I have Donnelly's ice cream coursing thru my veins. Do
you vacation here often? We were there from the 18th thru the 23rd. We
also played mini golf at Pirates Cove in Placid one night.

I answered Steve a few posts back...we were just past Saranac at Rainbow
Lake, a little past Paul Smith's College. My family has ties to the area
going back to the early 1940's.

Hey Ellen,
We (8 guys) make an annual pilgramage for 4 days of golf, mayhem and
debauchery. This was our 19th year. We started in Lake Placid at the
Whiteface Resort and have moved around a bit over the years. 5 of the
past 7 years have been at the Saranac Inn Golf and Country Club. We
stay right at the Inn but venture into Saranac village for dinner
(usually the Belvedere).
I've not been to Rainbow Lake but I'll try to get there next time.

| | Guest | August 2008 Stats My husband usually brings his golf clubs up with him, but I'm not sure which
courses he has played. He didn't this year because we actually started our
trip this year with 3 days in Montreal because our youngest wanted to 'leave
the country'. She got her wish, we had a fantastic time, and then finished
out the week at the lake. She and her daddy take a canoe trip for one night
and camp out on an island in the lake...this is the 2nd year that they've
done that. We actually stay with my cousin who rents a cabin for a month
from old family friends. My grandparents house is only about 4 cabins from
where we stay, so we just wave as we paddle by...lots of memories there.
When were you there? The weather was absolutely horrible all summer! We
brought the sun with us on the 18th and it was beautiful for the rest of the
week.
Sounds like you guys have a great time!
Ellen :)

We do. It sounds like we were there at the same time. Our trip was
August 21-24. The weather could not have been better - sunny and 80s
all 4 days. | |

OMG Steve! We were there at the same time! Cool! So glad to hear that
someone else enjoys the high peaks region...we can't be at WDW on ALL of our
vacations! lol I seem to recall that you live either in NY or close by.
I'm as far south as you can get on Long Island. I live on one of the
barrier islands.
