DVC member question

We were put on a wait list (as DVC members) for a planned trip
December 6-13 staying at the Old Key West Resort. I didn't think
making reservations in July for an early December vacation would be a
problem, but we usually book the 11 months in advance. Has any DVC
member ever been put on a wait list and ended up getting their
reservation? What do you think our chances are of getting the
December vacation? I'm hoping we'll get out reservation, but I'm not
so sure. What really kills me is seeing the air fare so low to
Orlando and knowing we can't book it.

I've been wait-listed several times, probably 5 or 6, and have
received my request all but once. That was a wait-list to switch from
OKW to Boardwalk. In one case, the wait-list came through on the day
previous to check-in.

That said, I am surprised there's no availability at OKW for your
dates. There's almost always availability there. Maybe Mousefest?

Norm: We usually get our reservation when we are put on the waitlist-
but we usually do not go in early December. I would also suggest
calling the DVC every week and checking it yourself- I once put a
reservation on a waitlist and then called a few weeks later and was
told I was not on a wait list for anything.

Also- I suugest posting your question on the DVC message boards on the
Disboards. There are alot more DVC members who read and post on those
boards- (disboards.com)

We've been DVC members since 1994 and this is the first time we ever
encountered any problems. Like I said, we usually book our trips 11
months in advance. Also, this isn't just a DVC thing. I tried going
on Disney's main website and there was nothing available at OKW even
if I paid cash for the trip.

Hubby and I really wanted to do Mousefest this year and got on several
wait lists several months ago, for BWV, and BCV, and then OKW. We
weren't at the 11 month window, but we were well before the 7 month one
when I made the first call for BWV. We were really surprised that nothing
was available. We eventually gave up and changed our plans, as I just
didn't want to get stuck at the last minute with no vacation at all. (We
moved our trip to January.)

Anyway, I was just as surprised as you - but when calling once again to
check on *any* available room for that time period and coming up empty, I
got a chatty DVC CM who may have solved the mystery. She said she could
get us in a week earlier, or a week later, but *that* week was a total
bust. I can't remember the exact day, but sometime that week there is
the annual DVC member meeting thing. They used to have a different one
for each resort, but now they are all combined into one. The CM I spoke
to really thought that a lot of people were planning their vacation
around this meeting, making DVC rooms impossible to get, even though non-
DVC room were readily available.

I have no idea if she's right, but it made sense to me... and was enough
to get us to change our plans. Sorry - probably doesn't help much.
