Doesn't Disney still own the store in NYC as well as the one in DTD? Are
those the only 2 that the company still owns? I for one will look forward
to Disney taking over the stores at my local malls, they were so much better
years ago when they owned them. Stopped in about 2 weeks ago and was
surprised that they actually had pins for sale! It's been a long time since
I've seen those at the store. I miss the adult merchandise year round, too.
Ellen :)

The one here in Glendale, California is. So I assume the others are
too. The bankruptcy filing protects you from creditors while you
attempt to reorganize. It doesn't force you to close. You close when
you can't obtain any more money to keep them open. (Like Aloha Airlines,
et. all)

Someone always has a better plan. :-)

It's happened more recently when Disney sold ABC radio to
Citidel. (Though Disney still owns a substantial percentage.)
Radio is having problems, but Citidel thought they could make
it go.

Yeah, but not worth visiting. I walk right by our Disney Store on my
way into the mall and never go in--it's depressing to see all that
cheap made-in-China stuff being sold at deep discount. I never go by
there that they don't have signs up screaming SALE, 70% off!

The Chapter 11 filing is often used as way to realign by shedding stores -
under an 11 the debtor has 60 days to selectively terminate leases of stores
they no longer want, often this is enough to straighten out the fiscal ship
by dumping unprofitable stores. If "prepackaged" properly it smoothens the
sale to a new owner making it more likely for the Bankrupty Court to approve
the sale. A large surplus chain in the Baltiimore area did this a few years
ago, went 11 one day, disclaimed leases on loser store locations and emerged
from 11 the next day.

We've gone to a nearby store with the screaming signs - found a couple of
really good deals on housewear stuff- - got a beautiful serving dish for
under $20 Cdn. We also picked up a beautiful snow globe for under $30 (I
think). So if you can get past all the cheap , sometimes there's a
couple good deals.

Yeah. I'm currently being amused at Motorola's strategy. They want
to sell what was once a cash cow. But now it's a big loser. But some
idea will want to buy the mobile business.
