I think I can bowl at the place down the street. Why would I want to
take time out of my vacation at Disney World to do something I can do
anywhere any time?

Answer: zero
I made my point.

Didn't there used to be a small (like 3 or 4 lanes) bowling alley
downstairs in the Contemporary by the movie theater and snackbar?
I'm talking 25 years or so ago when Epcot was EPCOT Center, the
Spaceship Earth omnimover didn't go squeakety kerthump, and Horizons
still smelled like oranges.

I know the post was a joke but,
I think it would be cool to go to a bowling alley if it was themed
pretty cool---people go to the movies while at WDW why not bowling---
the boardwalk would be a great area except not many can access the BW
without taking a long bus ride around the property to get there.

O.k., I understand this was a joke from the posts written above, but
my suggestion was a "think outside the box" idea. Anything Disney can
do to relieve capacity/overcrowding at its attractions is a plus. If
you think about it, a well-themed couple of lanes at Boardwalk would
pay for themselves (always a management concern, apparently), spread
out the crowds a wee bit, and add some much needed punch to the
Boardwalk, which frankly is a great resort but really does not put you
in mind either of the Atlantic Seaboard or the fun but seedy qualities
of belle epoch hotels generally. If not too many people could reach
it at the Boardwalk, so what? It would still be a nice addition, and
would fit it well potentially there.

It was part joke part serious question. There's a miniature golf
course near where I live but I always play at least one morning when
I'm in WDW. Why not a bowling alley? It would be a nice, fun, relaxing
getaway for an hour or two from the crowds. steve

But, seriously...the only time we bowl is when we're on vacation. I
think it has something to do with hubbie not wanting me to embarass
him in our hometown....but I'm not sure. :-)
I don't know. There's lots of stuff you can do at home that you never
get around to, but end up doing while on vacation. We have mini golf
close to home, but never play. But, I've played at WDW...
I don't think a bowling alley is a terrible idea, quite honestly.

Very much so. :-) Duckpin always reminds me of a cross breed of
candlepin and "normal" (ie, ten-pin) bowling. The balls are slightly
larger than candlepin (but still don't have holes), the pins are the
same *shape* as ten-pin, but even smaller than candlepin. The fallen
pins are cleared away like they are in ten-pin, but you get three
balls per frame like you do in candlepin.

Yes, though it has migrated up the shore a bit too. I've been duckpin
bowling in Virginia and in Connecticut. I've been candlepin bowling
in Connecticut, Massachusetts, and Vermont. I've been ten-pin
bowling.... well, everywhere. :-)
(And now you've all figured out one of my non-Disney obessions....)

Yeah, I though it was interesting to learn that it's much more difficult
than tenpin bowling - no one has *ever* scored a 300 game in duckpin. The
highest score ever according to one site I found was 279, and the highest
average ever was only 164.
