I worked for the Girl Scouts for a few years, and one of the things I
did was help leaders process accident and injury claims through our
group activity insurance.
I'd say 3/4 of the claims were from roller skating and ice skating.
If I was a Disney Lawbot I'd stay far far away from putting guests on
wheels.

I think a Disney on Ice theater would be a good idea for professional
skaters. But I don't see Disney opening up a rink for everyone... as stated
in other post it would be too much of a risk for them with very little in
return. But being from a area without a venue for these type of
productions, it might be a feasible addition to DTD, or WWoS. And it would
definitely be nice if it was part of the WP&M option of the MYW tickets.

| | Guest | WDW Skating Arena I think an ice rink at WDW would be a great idea. It's a great
activity for a rainy day. We live in the Boston area and ice skating
is one of our favorite activities on rainy weekends.
If everyone has helmets on, I don't think ice skating is dangerous at
all. I don't know about roller blading but I know I've seen
surprisingly few injuries at hockey rinks. I have two kids who play
travel hockey so I go to about 100 games and about 200 practices a
year and in seven years, I've seen one kid get hurt badly (a broken
leg). I see a lot more injuries at playgrounds and on the ball
fields. A couple of years ago, USA Hockey dropped its insurance
policy for the youngest children, the Mites. USA Hockey self insures
for the youngest players and thats for kids who are playing hockey,
not just skating around.

| | Guest | WDW Skating Arena An arena-type rink would be nice where you could see the Disney on Ice
shows, sort of like Cirque. It could be in Downtown Disney. Maybe
they could sell private time with a skater for lessons or something
like that (a behind the scenes type thing) where you would sign a
waiver for injuries incurred, etc.

| | Guest | WDW Skating Arena Didn't there used to be an ice skating ring at the West Side? It
might have been seasonal, but I do remember something over there at
one time.

I was thinking the same thing. A few December's ago, there was a
temporary ice rink set up at DTD West Side.

| | Guest | WDW Skating Arena Funny you ask that, since a skating arena was originally part of Walt's
plan for the Magic Kingdom area of WDW. I believe it was planned for
the area where the 7 Seas Lagoon sits. Not sure if it was for ice
skating or roller skating though...
