Default Resort check-in problem/suggestion

Hello everyone,

I wanted to post a note about our recent trip to WDW back in December 2006.
Overall the trip went well but I did want to mention one problem we had at
check-in.

We had booked our room reservations about 8 - 9 months in advance to be sure
of getting the dates we wanted as well as the room assignments we needed.
For this trip we were traveling with my sister and parents, so we needed a
total of 3 rooms; in our reservation request I specified that this was for a
family group and that we wanted to have adjacent rooms (or at least "nearby"
to one another). The CM who handled the reservation indicated that the
rooms would be tied together in their system to indicate this was for a
group.

When we checked in at the resort (POR) around 12:30 PM we were told that
only 2 of our rooms would be together -- the third room had been assigned in
another *building* -- this was not acceptable. The CM at the desk offered
to check with the supervisor to see what could be done -- we talked with the
resort Manager who came through for us. He was able to find a third room in
the same building for the first night (and my sister got 50% off of her room
that night for the inconvenience, lucky her!) and then moved her to an
adjacent room with our other 2 rooms the next day (they even offered to move
her luggage to the new room the next day which wasn't necessary for us, but
still nice to offer). He indicated the problem was that due to the "Pop
Warner" event the resort had been overbooked -- this was our 7th trip to WDW
and we've never had that problem come up before. Has anyone else ever run
into such a problem because of overbooking?

If you ever have a problem like this at check-in my suggestion is to be
polite but persistent with the CMs -- at least in our case it worked.

Default Resort check-in problem/suggestion

I have a great overbooking story. Several years ago we had booked a
week at Beach Club. 2 months before our trip I got a call that they
were overbooked and they would put us in the Swan for FREE with FREE
parks tickets. I said no. We visit once a year and the hotel is a big
part of the trip. I said I would take any deluxe Disney resort. They
had none. He kept trying to get me to take it and I stood firm. He
hung up.

When we arrived at the Beach Club there was a mob of angry people with
no rooms. I (in a panic) walked up to check in and was told that my
resort had been changed. I was moved to the Yacht Club. I asked her
to call over there and make sure I had a room before going over. She
said I did. We actually got a great water view and I had paid for a
standard. We had a great time and as you can see, to us a Disney
Resort stay is PRICELESS!

Boy, you must really want a Disney resort. I don't know your details,
but if you were staying at Beach Club for a week (7 x $200) and had to
buy park tickets for the week (~$250 per person), it adds up. If Disney
offered me the Swan for free and free park tickets, I would have gladly
taken my nearly $2k savings and "suffered" over at the Swan for a week.
You're a stronger person than I am. The $2k savings would have paid for
a nice second visit that year or next.
