| | Guest | Fort Wilderness We have been to WDW 5 times.
The first 4 times we stayed at the AllStars and Caribbean Beach.
We have gone to visit people at AK, the Beach club and Port Orleans.
As soon as you step outside of any of these places, you are surrounded with
the Disney atmosphere.
This last time we stayed at Fort Wilderness in a MH.
Although FW is the finest campground we have ever stayed at........it just
didn't seem to have the Disney atmosphere.
It could have been a campground anywhere in the state.
When we go again, we not will stay at FW.
Any other people feel the same ?

| | Guest | Fort Wilderness I LOVE Fort Wilderness. I'm local, so I don't stay onsite a lot - but
it's one of my favorite places to walk, to get something to eat, just to
spend time at. The campfire is fun, the wagon ride is something I do
every so often - I think it's a nice, quiet place to spend time and I
like that it doesn't feel like "Disney" as much.

I guess we need the "major character overload, every moment". <g>
We even like seeing the 2 million cheerleaders at All Stars.

I am guessing the reason Fort Wilderness doesn't work for you is that
it isn't as "frenetic" as other Disney resorts, because Caribbean Beach
in particular is not heavily Mickey themed. | |

That's one of the problems. Many snowbirds have found that FtW is a
fantastic place to spend the winter. There is even a monthly rate for
anyone staying longer than 27 consecutive days.So even durring the off
season it is nearly impossible to get a campsite. I have discussed this
overpopulation problem with several FtW CMs and it seems that they
desperately want to expand but the best places to expand to are swamps
and the state and federal govs refuse to stand by the original agreements
(where Disney purchased huge chunks of land to be made into an animal
preserve/wetlands in exchange for the right to build anywhere on the
property they want). So they are stuck with a major need to expand and
nowhere to go.
IMHO a logical place to expand is to put 3 or 4 loops in the area between
the Creekside Meadows group camping and the Settlement. These loops would
be right next to the Settlement (and thus prime realestate for "preferred
loop" status). And with the new loops starting from scratch they could
design the sites specificly to accomodate the larger motorhomes and long
term stays. And this would leave more sites available for the rest of us.

I wonder if they can build on the land across the street from the entrance
to FtW ?
If they put in all large pull-thru sites, the people using them would have
enough money to rent the golf carts, so getting to the Hoop-Dee-doo, dock,
resturant, etc, wouldn't be a problem.
