Well, expansion is limited. The sites give the impression that you are
camping in deep forest, but in reality things are very tightly packed.
Expansion (even if the "wetlands" problem went away) is severely limited.
To the north the lake blocks expansion (unless you tent camp in scuba
gear). :) To the east the golf course is there. To the south would have
everyone crossing a very busy road (golf carts would never get across the
road at some times of day without being crunched). So that leaves the
swamp land that covers the entire area from the campground to World drive
and the STOL landing strip. The only place already surrounded by FtW
internal roadways is the circular area I mentioned across the road from
the Settlement transport circle. Now if the wetlands to the west were fair
game the area available for sites could almost double.
BTW, your idea of puting trailer loops (or cabins) to the south side of
the road could work if one or more bridges spanning over the road and past
the parking lot (which is also unsafe at some times) to allow cart and
pedestrian traffic safe passage. I would even go so far as to say that
this would be a great place to put the cabins. From what I can tell, that
area is not wetland (it was rumored to be the planned site of "Buffalo
Junction") and could be used. There is about a 1 mile by half mile area
that could be used before running into the Epcot area. But it would
require the bridges I mentioned before. Actually, come to think of it if
the campground extended all the way to Epcot Dr, and a pedestrian
passthrough (bridge, underpass, protected sidewalk, etc) was provided, it
might add a real nice exercise path for those of us who might want to walk
to Epcot from time to time. :) Just think of it, a continuous walkway from
Bay lake all the way to Epcot, through Epcot, around Crecent lake and all
the way to the front gate of the Studios. Talk about exercise. :)
Enough wishful thinking.
