not attempted any wilder rides with her yet. How does Expedition
Everest compare re: scare factor ? I am trying to decide whether to
schedule it into our upcoming mother & daughter WDW trip.
Thanks! | |

I personally don't think EE has a greater scare factor than BTMRR. If
anything, EE is a smoother ride - you don't get tossed around and bang
into the side of your train cart on Everest. You should note, however,
that EE does have a backwards-in-the-dark segment, which some people
claim makes you feel like you're going upside-down. I have never
experienced this sensation personally. (And there are no actual
upside-down segments)
One other note that could be a factor - both Test Track and BTMRR have
a height requirement of 40", where as EE's requirement is 44".
Obviously I have no idea if that affects your daughter or not, but I
assume you do. :-)

*SPOILERS FOLLOW*
I would say the "Ride Experance" is about the same as Big Thunder. As
far as the coaster part goes it's not any more wilder coaster than any
other on properity I would rank it well below Rock'n'roller coaster,
and Tower of Terror. And as the other poster said it's smoother than a
lot rides. Parts are in the dark, which does make it more intentnse
since you don't know where the car is going. There is a large drop at
the end (about the same length as Splash Mountain), but it's curved so
it's very smooth not like Splash.
BUT (note it's a capital but) the story is what you'll have to judge
with respect to your child. I would say story-wise it's on par with
Dinosuar! There is a yeti, he has destroyed part of the tracks as you
get to them, then you see him (in the shadows) ripping up tracks you
are on, and he does lunge at your car as you go by.
Think of it as "dark ride" + coaster. I think of it as a classic
attraction, it's much more scary because Joe Rhode (the princpal
designer) does such a good job at setting you up. They establish the
monster, and do a good job of building it up, so it doesn't have to be
much to scare you when he does jump out at you.

The biggest drop can be seen while standing outside of the ride area
looking at the mountain. The train comes out of a tunnel and makes a
drop down the side of the mountain and then back up into another
tunnel. Stand with your daughter and watch the trains going through
the motions a few times and ask her "What do you think?" If she's game
from watching from a safe perspective on ground level, I think she'll
be OK. There are some surprises in the ride itself, but if she can
handle Big Thunder and thinks she can handle the visible drop you see
outside of the ride, I'm willing to bet she'll do fine.
This is pretty much what my grandmother did with me when I was 7, just
after the Matterhorn opened at Disneyland in 1959. I was apprehensive,
so we stood and watched it for a while until I made up my mind if I
wanted to ride or not. I decided I could handle it and we rode it
together. Once I rode the Matterhorn with her, it was the beginning of
my life long affair with roller coasters.
Also, remember she always has the option to back out before she gets
into the train if she changes her mind to ride. Nobody will think one
bit less of her for making that decision.

Nope it really does go backwards. People also think it inverts, but
it doesn't do that.
I really think it's monster angle that has a more of a chance to scare
a kid than the motion of the ride.

| | Guest | How scary is Expedition Everest? My 4y.o. and 6y.o. love EE. We did it 3x in a row on two separate days:) My
4y.o. isn't too crazy about TT but she will do it. They both love BTMRR. | |

From a speed factor, agreed. But if someone is afraid of drops, the
big drop outside the EE mountain could be a bit much to handle. Big
Thunder doesn't have any drops that compare to that drop on EE. In my
view, comparing EE to Splash is more of a fair comparison than to Big
Thunder from the drop standpoint. And drops are usually what bring out
the coaster chicken in a lot of people.

| | Guest | How scary is Expedition Everest? Thanks for all of the info and advice. Lots of food for thought! I
was leaning towards trying EE with my daughter, now I am not so sure -
DARK rides and things jumping out at her scare her! She was upset by
Haunted Mansion and The Great Movie Ride of all things, 2 rides I
thought nothing of bringing her on last year, as a 7 year-old.
I am also a little worried about the drop - maybe we'll try Splash
Mountain first. I will also do what Dave in Dallas so wisely suggested
- let her size it up from the outside and then decide. It's not like
there is NOTHING else to do!!! Since big brother and Dad are not
coming along, they'll be no sibling pressure or teasing!
I'll let you know how it goes!

I'm not sure I would say that things jump out at you on EE. The first time
my kids rode EE they didn't even notice the YETI:)
FWIW, neither of my kids wanted to do The Great Movie Ride after the first
time -- it scared both of them.

| | Guest | How scary is Expedition Everest? Listed max drops are-
Everest (80 ft)
Splash (52.5 ft)
So Everest is higher, but as people have said it's smoother, and
banked. It feels like a lesser drop, but it's longer.
I know others have said they didn't see the Yeti at the end. Because
you are moving kinda fast as he goes by...
