| | Guest | The Seas with Nemo ... etc. You do enter as before, and the winding path that used to be there,
showing all of the diving gear, is now dressed as a beach. The lighting
is low, especially when you come in out of the bright sun.
Then you enter into a long queue area that makes it seem as if you are
underwater ... good effects, and a lot of area for "storing" people. I
am not sure exactly where the load area is in relation to the old
attraction, but it does not lead directly into the tank area. (All of
the hydrolators are long gone.) You go through some very nicely
detailed sets - once again Marlon is looking for Nemo - which starts
off on the reef. You go through a room containing giant Jellyfish, the
sharks' sunken ship, the EAC with Crush and then come to the tank area
.... where the animated Nemo characters appear to be swimming in the
tank alongside the real fish. (Make sure to listen to the complaints of
the starfish ... very funny!)
The unload puts you into the former Sea Base Alpha and the queue for
Turtle Talk. | |

the old Sea-cab set up?
TIA

Kevin Yee of MiceAge has described what we're seeing pretty well, I think -
the idea that all of WDW is gradually becoming part of Fantasyland. Part of
the push for "synergy" dictates that (seemingly) everything is tied in to
something else, so new projects at the parks will be tied into marketable
characters, or popular characters spawn (with very mixed results) new
movies. Even Mission Space was linked with "Mission to Mars" - a tie-in that
essentially disappeared when the movie was far short of being a big hit.
I'd like to see the company not limit itself to new attractions tied to
popular films and Disney characters. There are so many more possibilities
with the creative minds within the company.
In the early days, outside of Fantasyland, there wasn't much presence of the
characters - though there was some, to be sure. But now, the feeling seems
to be along the lines of "Stitch is popular, so there *must* be a
Stitch-related attraction. Well, Stitch was from outer space, so let's put
one in Tomorrowland". So we now have an overlay that seems to be pretty
unpopular, since it seems to be too scary for much of its target audience.
Or we have "Nemo the Musical" - between Asia and Dinoland, of all places.
Or how the concept behind 'Symbiosis' had Timon and Pumba tossed in, along
with a dash of "sky is falling" to turn the message of the original back on
itself when we got 'Circle of Life'. (OK, that one was almost twelve years
ago - perhaps one of the early examples of the trend.)
Obviously, there are exceptions - 'Soarin over California' is a huge hit
with an original concept. 'Everest' is based on a non-Disney mythical
character. Kilimanjaro Safari, though not exactly recent, is a terrific expe
rience *in spite of* the Disneyfied Little Red story line.
I like the original idea of looking for really good ideas for park
attractions (and resorts and restaurants, too), regardless of if they're
part of a synergy. But that doesn't jell with the modern corporate culture,
at least at the present.
Am I angry about it? No, just a bit disappointed at what might have been.

| | Guest | The Seas with Nemo ... etc. I went a little out of my way to do the Nemo attraction tonight while at
Disney. I wasn't that impressed, I found it unmemorable overall. It
was colorful, and I liked the turtle part (except for Crush, I hate the
whole "dude" thing!). What I liked least though were two things: I
didn't like being able to look into the lobby of the Living Seas while
in line. It didn't feel like I was being transported anywhere. Second,
I'd like to see them do more with the queue (like aquariums with fish).
The ride broke down today, and I found it quite boring to just stand
in the dark.
