Default Where to stay for NYE?

OK, the big real estate deal came back to life so it looks like DH and
I are going to splurge and do New Year's Eve at the World (even though
we are coming back from a trip in early October)! When would be the
best time to arrive and where would be the best place to stay? I think
we will only be there for four days.

Personally, I'd arrive early on Dec 31 and not plan to go to your selected
park until later in the evening. As a Disney resort guest, you'll have an
easier time getting into a "Closed/At Capacity" park than someone staying
off-site. You may not be able to get into your first-choice park, but you
are guaranteed entrance to at least ONE of the parks.

We live in the area and always make dinner reservations at Yachtsman, Flying
Fish or somewhere else in the Boardwalk area and then go into either Epcot
or MGM after dinner. We've never had a problem getting in either place
around 8 or 9 PM.

By scheduling your vacation to arrive on Dec. 31, you get the fun of NYE at
Disney, but get the advantage of the lower crowds once NYE is over (and all
the holiday decorations will still be up).

Beach Club, Yacht Club, Boardwalk, Swan, Dolphin ...any of those resorts
put you within walking distance (or boating distance) of both Epcot and MGM.
IMHO, it's the ideal location.

Which NYE fireworks are best? I was hoping to see them over the
castle. I'm thinking about doing two separate hotel ressies anyway
because I think the rates drop as of 1/01, right? I do like your idea
of dining at the Boardwalk. Do any of the resorts do anything special
on NYE?

By best, I mean crowds, decorations, festivities. If we didn't fly
down till 1/31 would we have missed anything? Is it festive all NYE
day so that we would want to come down 1/30.

I believe the BEST to be at Magic Kingdom, and here's a secret. You
will "probably" see the same fireworks on December 30th because they
"test" them on that night (or have in the past).

We did dinner at Narcoosee's last yer for the late seating. We stood
outside on the veranda, saw fireworks going off "over" the castle, saw
the same ones going off on in an island right in front of us with the
same sound track/music playing as the park, could also see what I think
was Epcot's in the distance and either DD or MGM's, too. It was pretty
magical.-CL

Splurge? Well then go with a lagoon concierge room at the Polynesian.
Watch the fireworks from the beach. Best view on property!
