Why is this a bad thing? Gas prices are usually below the national
average, and you get full service - what a value! I don't mind pumping
my own gas, but if I fill up in NJ before heading home from work to NY,
I not only save about 30¢ a gallon, I also don't have to "get my hands
dirty".

So, everyone else in the US has the accents?
<still grinning>
Where in upstate NY? We lived in Newfield for 4 years. It was gorgeous,
lots of hiking & we would go up to Watertown to go white water rafting
-- really great.

Sorry, Lee, but I drive I-87 and I-90 a lot and believe me when I tell
you that the worst, i.e., inconsiderate, aggressive, reckless, drivers
are either from NJ or Quebec!! Not only that but I had a close
encounter of the inebriated kind on our last visit to WDW and yes I
know for sure the guy was from NJ. He even creeped the CMs out. And
no I'm not perfect, NY isn't perfect, NY'ers are not perfect by any
means. I didnt' say we were. Just speaking from personal experience,
Lee. And I'm sure you've encountered plenty of rude New Yorkers too.
Just felt like adding my $0.02 to the thread.

My one real objection is that I don't want to wait for someone to run
out to my car. I want to pull up to a pump and get it done and go.
Otherwise, it's just a cultural thing -- it feels really bizarre after
doing myself my whole life. I *was* warned that anyone from New Jersey
would vehemently defend the law because it seems to be very popular
with NJ residents.
Are you supposed to tip the gas pumpers?? Do they ever start trying to
wash your windshield for tips?

| | Guest | NJ Week Lee, I'm sorry I offended you. I'm not trying to hide behind anonymity
in casting aspersions. I consider everyone here (except tolls) friends
and if you were sitting right next to me, I would have said the same
thing to you and I would have been laughing while I said it. I'm
Italian, I laugh at Italian jokes. I'm vertically challenged, I laugh
at short people jokes. I will not only poke fun at you but at myself
as well. Life's too short to sweat the small stuff!

I grew up in WI, then lived upstate NY for 14 years, and have since returned
to WI. Belive me, there is most definitely a way of speaking that is found
only in upstate NY. | |

Judy,
We rafted down the Hudson for a fall foliage tour years ago (back in
1995?) -- We went with Adirondack River Outfitters -- they were our
favorite rafting company anywhere. They're the outfit we used on the
Black River. We also rafted the upper and lower Gauley back then. I used
to tease my graduate students that they were all going to have to go
whitewater rafting with us so that I could evaluate their performance
under pressure and their ability to follow directions.

have their grill going our Cody has his tongue hanging out hoping that
people will give him some scraps.
