| | Guest | Tipping and the meal plan The meal plan that comes with packages nowadays says that the gratuity
is included. Does anyone know how much the server actually gets? I
can't imagine not leaving an extra tip even if the "gratuity is
included." Especially if I get a good server.

I believe it was listed on the bill as 15%. I always left an additional
cash tip. | |

| | Guest | Tipping and the meal plan I don't think I would leave an additional tip after being billed 15% on
the total package where your also leaving 15% for counter service and
snacks also. I just couldn't afford 30% tipping.
Regards.

| | Guest | Tipping and the meal plan I think it was 15%, and then we left a cash tip depending on how the
service was. I'm not sure if they pool their tips, so this seemed to us
like the best thing to do. | |

I think maybe you're a bit confused about the meal plan. You're not
"billed" 15% for anything ...not counter service, not table service.
You pay a flat amount per person per day (about $38) and that gives you one
snack, one counter service meal and one table service meal. All meal/snack
include tax and the table service meal includes gratuity. So, all you pay
is the (approx.) $38 per day for everything.
If you choose to leave an additional gratuity for the server, that's a
really nice gesture ...but it in no way means you're leaving a 30% tip on
your meal and your counter service meal somehow.
....and it is my understanding (but I have no confirmation) that the table
service meal server gets 15% of a specific portion of the $38, not 15% of
the total of the items that people actually ordered.
For example, last night we dined at Le Cellier. My husband had a 12.99
appetizer, a 26.99 steak, a 6.99 dessert and coffee ($3 ??) for a total of
about $50. If someone were on the meal plan, this meal would have "cost"
one table service option ...no extra tax and no extra gratuity.
....but when Disney priced the meal plan at $38/day, they probably figured a
snack at about $3, a counter service meal at about $10, a table service meal
at about $20 and the server's tip at 15% of the $20 table service meal which
equals $3 ....but the server really gets "cheated" here because someone
NOT on the dining plan would have left them about $7 or $8 in gratuity for
the meal.
So, leaving a little extra tip, although certainly not required is a very
nice thing to do.

| | Guest | Tipping and the meal plan The whole idea behind the meal plan from the guests point of view is to save
money.
The tip is included, why pay more? Sure, if you have some money you can't
use or just want to give away it's nice from the servers point of view if
you leave it for them.
I don't use the meal plan but if I did I would accept the fact that the tip
is included. I don't feel that the server gets cheated.
