Default How are the busses from Pop Century

We'll be staying at Pop Century for 6 nights begining on July 30.
Can anyone tell me how the busses work from there? Are there long
waits? any info will be helpful...also..how is the resort?

The busses at PC are pretty reliable because there is only one stop. In the
morning and at park closing it tend sto be crowded but we didn't wait for a
bus more than 10 minutes.

The waits to leave are usually very short. Coming back in the evenings
can take a while, but still in the reasonable range. The biggest
complaint - the Pop Century Stop at the parks seems to be the one
further away from the exit at ALL of them. When you've already had a
long, hot, tiring day, the last thing you want is a LOOOONG walk just to
get to the bus.

The resort ... sore point. A lot of people have a great time there. My
first (and LAST) stay at Pop Century was not that enjoyable.
Mousekeeping was hit-or-miss other than making the beds and replacing
towels. Check-in was a semi-disaster with very little of the original
plans making past the beginning. Our reservations plainly said 1st
floor guaranteed for medical reasons - check-in said that could NOT be
done and we were getting third floor. For the same reason we were
supposed to get a room fairly close to the front - that wasn't going to
happen either. after a LOT of give and damned little take, we did get
the ground floor - but no where close to anything. Our reservations
noted that one member of our party was having his 50th Birthday (and it
should be noted we were there during the 50th Anniversary kick-off) and
they took all the relevent info down at check-in - and that's the last
the birthday was mentioned. No 'special phone call; nothing special in
the room; a total 'No Magic Here' stay.

During our stays at other resorts (not value), the staff was falling
over backwards to accommodate us WITHOUT our asking. The staff at Pop
Century needs to have a refresher - or maybe they need to be trained in
the Disney Way - because they damned sure didn't have it when we were there.

Sounds like you got what you paid for. Economy rates = economy service.
Expect anything above that and you're setting yourself up for
disappointment.

I can imagine that check-in talks to people ALL DAY EVERY DAY who want first
floor, close to the front. Valid medical problem or not, you were just
another one of those people.

On the other hand, we've stayed at Pop Century a few times and have
never had any problems with the resort of the staff. In fact, we were
there during Hurricane Frances and had a 24 hour lockdown. The entire
staff made sure we knew what was going on when we checked in and
suggested that we stock up on food since the food court would be closed
once things got too dangerous. After the danger passed, the entire
food court opened up with everything being freshly made - they even had
full pizzas all prepared and hot.

And we had a very different experience with our room request. I had
requested non-smoking which is kind of a must with my husband. He's
not allergic but it's never been a problem. We checked in later in the
evening than normal and were told there were no non-smoking rooms left.
My husband quietly said "that's unacceptable". I was ready to head
offsite. The Cast Member asked if we had a medical reason. I said
that it was just uncomfortable for my husband. Five minutes later we
had a preferred non-smoking room.

I love Pop Century. I also like All Stars. The value resorts, in my
opinion are fine. I've stayed in just about all the different resorts
down there. Deluxes and moderates are great but there's nothing wrong
with the values.

You'll have a great stay, I'm sure.

I love the POP . I only made a request one time and that was for a first
floor room since it would be easier for me with my smal children. NP got a
really nice room on the ifrst floor arounf the corner fromthe pool and
laundry. I dont find POP as "basement". On that same trip mh DD was sick
soiled the bed. I called Housekeeping and in a short time they came changed
the whole bed including the bedspread . I was very impressed.

I'm glad you were able to get the non-smoking room.. I *am* allergic and
I could not stay in a non-smoking room.. I have but I had no choice
about the matter (different state and time, not disney) as the rooms
were all full that weekend.. Hubby tried to make it as best for me as he
could but there really wasn't much to be done but open the window and
keep the fan on the a/c and stay out of the room as much as humanly
possible..

As an aside: I was wondering if you have been there in December?? I
would be willing to try Pop Century if I thought I could save some $$
and not have to deal with the Pop Warner cheerleaders.. having dealt
with them at ALL STARS I must say it's worth the extra money to be away
from them. but if they found a better way of dealing with the kids..
(and really I have nothing against kids and my dear radp pals have
cheerleaders of their own!) it's just when I want to be on vacation, I
don't want to deal with running up and down screaming unchaperoned kids
and cheer practice and the like I've heard as well experienced going on
in the past.. For $60 I'd rather use our Marriot points (well Sean's
Marriot Points) and stay closeby.. ehh.. who am I kidding!? I'd rather
be at AKL or Wilderness Lodge if we can afford to.. *snort*

anyway just wondered.. (we've stayed at Jazz before on a Valentine's Day
weekend and it was nice! wish I could say the same about Dec.)

Bus, plural buses
Buss, plural busses

One would imagine that kisses work at Pop Century the same way they
work anywhere else, and that the waiting time between kisses depends on
who you are kissing and how much they like you.

I didn't realize it was a given that they would help you celebrate your
birthday?

Maybe not a 'given', BUT, the check-in desk noted that it was on the
reservation information, took specific information, and said that the
'birthday boy' would receive a special birthday call. We weren't
expecting a party - just the minimums THEY said were coming.

No 'special call' - not even a 'Happy birthday' from ANY of the staff in
spite of a special 'It's My 50th Birthday, Too' Shirt (and a Birthday
Pin from a park that evening). The CM's at MK went crazy over the shirt
we had made and EVERY ONE OF THEM said Happy Birthday. The 'Mayor' came
by during lunch to wish him a happy 50th.

Just one more 'minor' issue with Pop that we never had anywhere else.
