| | Guest | 4th July -NE Traffic NJ-WDW We are deciding which day/time to leave for WDW, and whether we can add
a day by leaving earlier.
We are going from central NJ shore to first visit Kenedy Space
Center(KSC) before 2 weeks at Disney.
We are leaving 4th July weekend and can either leave at the earliest
Friday afternoon or very early Sat morning, Jul 2nd.
We are definitely not interested in driving through the night.
Most important is avoiding the traffic on I95 around DC and the eastern
(Delaware, MD) Holiday traffic. If we leave Sat, at about 3 or 4
a.m., we will drive until Jacksonville area to go to KSC on Sunday.
If we can leave Friday, without getting caught in major Holiday
traffic, we can gain a day by traveling until about midnight, but not
much more because of leaving from half day of work on Friday. Not sure
if anytime that Friday afternoon would hit traffic around DC and MD.
Are there any routes that would not have Holiday and beach traffic?
Have seen notes about 301, but looks like it's by shore tourist areas
and maybe slow.
Thank you! | |

| | Guest | 4th July -NE Traffic NJ-WDW Thank you for your help. I will look on a map regarding this route.
Even if we arrive in MD or VA areas by early afternoon Friday, do you
still think it will be bad. If we go Sat, we would be there about 7
a.m.
PS the autotrain would not work for us. | |

We travel to WDW from Toms River, NJ. We took the
route through Del 13 to the Bay Bridge/Tunnel this
past April and it was a wonderful route. Not many
trucks and no traffic. We returned via I95 around DC
on a Sunday without much traffic. The BB/T route is
about 30 miles longer but took the same time as
traveling 95 on a sunday without much traffic. Friends
who left for WDW just after we did took 95 and spent 3
hours not moving due to a truck accident around DC.
Even without accidents, holiday traffic around DC will
be a nightmare. You could leave either Fri or Sat and
be OK by taking the BB/T. You will get some traffic in
Delaware Fri Afternoon but it shouldn't be bad.
If you have questions about this route from the Jersey
Shore let me know.

Thank you for your help. We are leaving from Rumson, and from being
from this area you know our traffic concerns regarding 4th of July
weekend. (p.s. I'm a MonDon/St.Joe grad!)
The above mentioned route looks good.
Any idea for what time Friday we would need to leave by to miss the
Friday afternoon traffic around MD and VA?
Also, where do you think we would end up about 11 hours from start
time?
I am trying to figure out if leaving on Firday even helps since we
planned on spending a day at Kennedy and doing the lunch with an
astronaut. If we can't get to Kennedy by noon on Sat, we would just
keep with plan to leave very early Sat morn and drive to Jacksonville
that night and spend Sunday at KSC, then Sunday night to Disney. This
whole idea of starting out earlier is to possisbly spend more time
relaxing one day, after a car trip, before heading into the parks, and
taking advantage of the pools and water sports available at the hotel.
Thank you very much for your advice,

| | Guest | 4th July -NE Traffic NJ-WDW If you hit Northern Virginia after midnight, you'll be ok. If you hit
it any other time on a holiday weekend, forget it. Normal Friday
afternoons on the stretch of 95 from the beltway south to
Fredericksburg are absolutely horrible, and a holiday weekend it'll be
that much worse. Seriously, if I couldn't plan on driving through
there in the middle of the night, I personally would either not go or
buy an airline ticket rather than sit in that traffic.
