You'd actually be at sea headed to Puerto Vallarta.

As long as it was trained off of the Mickey Pool! Seeing how crowded it
is might make me NOT want to go!

Nifty, Deb! It sure sounds like they're making the people on the
inaugural West Coast cruise feel special, what with the special
hats and all. And that photo of the fireboat with the rainbow
is beautiful. Bet this will be a trip to remember.

(A sidenote: I happened to be in Honolulu in 1970 when the Lurline
made its final voyage to San Francisco. Those of you of a certain
age in California and Hawai'i will know what a major event that
was. I think every boat in Honolulu was there to see it off. My
friends and I were in a catamaran in the harbor, so we got a great
view of the festivities, which were highlighted by a Coast Guard
helicopter dropping thousands of vanda orchids across the harbor.)

Wow!!! I sailed on the Lurline in May of 1958 (as an almost 2 year
old). What amazes me is that the old girl sailed until the late 70's
and was finally scrapped in the early 80's. Not bad for a ship built
in the 20's.

I'm still looking for souveniors of her, china, silver, etc.

Inside of a dog, it's too dark to read.

How exciting! We saw friends off once or twice, but I never took
a trip on the ship myself.

Note that the Lurline you were on in 1958 was not the one that
was retired from Matson in 1970. The latter sank a few years ago
while it was being towed. :-( I don't recall what happened to
the older Lurline(s), but a net search would probably reveal that.

I did a search several weeks ago as a result of a post on
.crusing. I"ll have to look it up again.

I do know that she sailed the Eastern Med as a Turkish ship before
being broken up.
