| | Guest | Obtain Euros I think the best way to do it is to bring your ATM card with you and just do
a cash withdrawal from an ATM in Euros once you're in Europe. Then you
don't have to pay the transaction charge.
But the ship will exchange currencies.

| | Guest | Obtain Euros We sued the ship to get currency when we were going to stop in
IRELAND,we paid them then, and when the port of call was cancelled,we had
to turn it back in,but it cost us to do so,never again on a ship,we will
get the exchange at a bank at the port of call,we lost out both ways.

The details on ATM cards and Credit Cards ... vary with the individual
service provider. A couple of years ago, they were the best way to
exchange, but the companies have "caught on" and some have raised the
fees to the point where they're close to the worst deal for the
consumer.
If you're a AAA member, most of their locations offer the service for a
fee.
So too do many banks.
There's a transaction fee, but there's no interest being paid on an
outstanding balance, etc.

Unless you pay your credit card off in full each month, right, Joseph?

If you use your credit card to get cash, it is considered a cash
advance. The bank starts charging for it right away, even if you pay
your bill every month. At least that is the way "my" credid card works.

Joseph, I just looked at the card that I used at ATM machines in Europe as
an ATM card..It is a M/C from our Federal Credit Union...It does say
*Debit*in the right corner...Is there a key that you punch in at the ATM
machine that gives you the choice to use it as a debit card? I've never
used it as a debit card before..When you use it as a debit card, then you
must have adequate funds in your checking account to immediately draw from,
right?
If so, that means transferring funds from my money market account to
checking before I use it..

Thank you, I am now *unconfused* about that part...but you did not answer if
there is a certain key on the ATM machine that allows you to use it as a
debit card instead of as the ATM card that I have been using it as before.
