Don & Lynn, you must have been on the same cruise with us... Was it May 4,
2002? I remember by passing Monterey and staying longer in SF..We had a
balcony that gave us a panoramic view of the city, Golden Gate Bridge and
Alcatraz...What a gorgeous view night and day! That was one of our favorite
cruises.

That was it. Me and a lot of other pax and a lot of crew were on the top
deck as we went under the golden gate around 3pm. There was a news
helicopter overhead. The Star was a novelty, largest cruise ship ever on the
left coast. They kept playing Tony Bennetts song which was very moving. It
was a great stay in SF. We really liked the Star. It got us started. We have
had 23 cruises since that one, which was one of the best.
Then it was capped off by Bocelli singing "Time to say goodbye" as we sailed
out of the harbor.
What a cruise and what a ship.
Great to hear from you. We follow your adventures.

Don,
I really makes you stop and think...I wonder how many times we walked by you
and Lynn on that ship and did not know it...Same with Ray G., since we did
not know each other or what we looked like..Life is strange and the world is
small when you think of just these instances...We were ships passing in the
night and never knew it! In this case it was day and night! ;-)

Wow! You have certainly made good time with 23 cruises in just four years!
Good for you! You are definitely addicted! What's next for you two?

As I post this, I have a CD playing Con te Partiro with Andrea Bocelli and
Sarah Brighton singing! It was a gift to me from another good friend and
cruising buddy, Jeff C. and I play it often...

Nice hearing from you, too!

Sorry meant to say, IT really makes you stop and think! The spell checker
should have stopped to think for me in this case!

Default Mexican Riviera has become top cruise destination

Hi Jean,
We live about 100 miles from San Pedro so we try to cruise out of there or
San Diego to avoid airports. It used to be thrilling to fly from here to
there in such a short period of time but airplanes and airports have gotten
to be a pain. They have their hubs put together so well, it is really
difficult to get a non-stop flight any more.
Enough of that, we have cruised mostly with Princess because they have had
nice ships out here and that they have coin laundries so that we can travel
light. We tried HAL, but their ships were not as new--Ryndam,
Statendam,Zaandam.,
We are Elite now with Princess which is kind of nice---lots of goodies.
We have done a lot of back-to-back cruises.
We have booked the Sapphire's last Mexican Riviera cruise(7 days in May)
followed by the Sapphires 7 day coastal cruise to Vancouver--lots of good
ports, San Diego, Santa Barbara, SF, Salem,Or and Victoria,BC. It's nice
after the first week to not have to pack and leave like everyone else. At
the end, we will fly back to LAX, which is less than 3 hours.

In Sept, we will fly to Vancouver and spend a night at the Pan Pacific
Hotel, located right at the terminal. We will then do the reverse of the May
cruises on the Diamond Princess---7 day coastal followed by 7 day Mex
Riviera---same ports. I think we like coastal cruises.
We just got back from a 15 day Hawaii cruise on the Island Princess. It was
kind of cold and overcast the entire cruise so we may do it again in January
to get it right.

Did you mention addicted.
Regards,
Don

Lucky you! Guess you don't do many Caribbean itineraries, do you?

Princess does have very good repeater benefits.

That is really great! Did you leave and return to San Diego on that one? We
have a cruise booked for Hawaii with a group on April 27,2007...We fly to
Hawaii but return to Vancouver. We have been to Hawaii twice but never
cruised there, so I'm looking forward to that one.

Have a wonderful time on your September cruise...you sure you won't go
through withdrawal waiting until September? <vbg>

We have done three Caribbean cruises, but like Don said we avoid airports we
don't like the hassles you have to go through there.

The cruise to Hawaii was round trip from San Pedro on the Island Princess.
We are thinking about doing it again in January 2007, but we really enjoyed
Hawaii the two times we flew there. You can do more when you stay on the
islands.
Our first trip to Hawaii we sailed on the Independence and that was
enjoyable because we got more of the culture of Hawaii as opposed to the
Island Princess.

We are going on the Sapphire in May the same trip, but in reverse of the
September trip. We are both counting the days. I think I could easily just
live on a ship.
