We were to Cancun a few year ago for a weeks stay & went to a timeshare
talk. We got two tickets to Chitza-Nitza for listening to the talk. It
would have cost us over $125 for the tickets otherwise. They also through in
a breakfast which was great. Of course it cut into most of our morning but
it wasn't all that bad. I doubt if I'd had wasted my time if I were on a
cruise. | |

I'm glad people like you keep right on buying. It makes for nicer gifts for
people like me. | |

I bill at $75/hr. Carol goes for $105. Saving $125 is false economy.

I would not spend a morning on my vacation listening to a timeshare
pitch just to get free tickets. I would spend the $125 and have not
lost that time although I am pretty sure I did not spend that much to
go to Chichen Itza. I think it was $40.

| | Guest | Timeshare Game Even if you got strong armed into buying you have 3-5 full days
(depending on state or country) to cancel the deal. The closers are
usually the best of the best salesmen who have been promoted to closer.
They will have an answer for any argument you have. Are Time Share
salesmen thieves? No more than any car dealer (new or used) or real
estate agent is. Sooner or later we all have our experience with them.

They may be just salesmen trying to make a living but I've never been strong
armed into buying a new car or home before. Possibly the used car dealers
are more pushy. They are a breed among themselves.

Most states the 3-5 day rule only applies to contracts signed in your
home .

Exactly why I don't think timeshares are a great idea, at least for us.
As much as I love the places I've visited in the past, there's not one,
yet, that I'd want to revisit, on an annual basis. Sure, you can
"bank:" your week, shop the catalog of sister properties, etc. But,
it's my understanding that you'll get the most bang for your buck at
your home resort, and the other options are only available on a rather
restricted basis (if, by chance, someone who owns a week at the resort
your interested in visiting wishes to not use there week there, thus
freeing up a week for you).
Everyone I know that owns a timeshare is looking to unload it.

| | Guest | Timeshare Game OK... I have to add my worthless 2 cents here.
I own three TS weeks in different resorts, all purchased resale or eBay
or however on the cheap.
One, my most expensive, is at a resort and location I will never give
up on. I use it as a "home" resort in the small California beach town
where I grew up, and near most of my family. We held a great 50th
birthday party there this past Spring and I was able to secure extra
rooms for those from out of town. Recently I hosted New Zealand friends
there for Relaxation, beach walks, lounging at the pool, BBQs and Mas
Margaitas! Again, extra room in a first class resort on the cheap.
My Tahoe week is an excellent trader, but I bought there thinking of it
as a place for family gatherings as we vacation there often. At this
time I'd sell it.
My Florida week is at a premium resort, 3 bedroom lockout, trades well,
rents out with little trouble and that covers my M&T, which continues
to increase for little reason. I'd sell it if someone waved the right
change under my nose.
Using the Trade Companies I've looked at their options to trade and
upgrade to a cruise, but you know what, never a good deal.
So many people buy and trade, never staying at their resort. Many buy
and sell keeping several resale companies solvent. Also, "Marketing"
specialists are numerous and will keep hounding you even for $50
listing.
I've taken several tours, get through them quickly and take their
bribe. I've purchased at two resorts where I toured, but much later and
for far less $$. These days I just tell people I own too many and have
no desire to waste my time and their gifting.
So bottom line for me... Timeshare's are OK, but I'd sell two out of my
three (then buy one elsewhere with excellent trading power and lower
M&T fees)
Now... dare we talk about the Points System?
(I'd rather talk about my next cruise!)
