| | Guest | American Queen to New Orleans leaving this Sat. Is anyone scheduled to be on this trip from Memphis, TN to New Orleans on
the American Queen. We paid for this trip months ago and are going with a
small group from our town.
I can't believe that Delta Queen cruise line did not cancel this trip.
We are scheduled to leave this Sat. from Memphis. With the conditions in
New Orleans becoming worse every day you would think they would not want to
be on the Mississippi river at this time. Looks like we are have no
choice but to go, if we cancel we will loose over $4.000.00.

Ahh, don't worry about it. Most people wouldn't know it was wrong, nor
would they care.
I hope they re-schedule that trip soon. I can't imagine them waiting
this long, and hanging you guys out. I don't believe you'll be going
anywhere near New Orleans any time soon.

| | Guest | American Queen to New Orleans leaving this Sat. You might want to check the message board at steamboats.org, Cindy.
There's nothing there yet, but those steamboat buffs would probably know
before anyone else. I _did_ find out all 3 Queens and Riverbarge are
safe in other areas.
An even better idea might be to contact Delaware North, DQ's parent
company. I don't have the contact info at hand, but I'm sure a quick
Google search will set you up.
Good luck, and I hope everything works out for you. Thoughts and prayers
to all in the Gulf region.

| | Guest | American Queen to New Orleans leaving this Sat. Am I the only one thinking this string is rather ghoulish, with DQ
Headqurters probably lying in ruins and many of the crew wondering if
their homes are still standing. I think once the disaster subsides and
the DQ people can worry about something other than SAVING THEIR OWN
LIVES, you may find out if your cruise has been rescheduled and if
these 'greedy bastards" will give you an onboard credit for the
inconvenience. | |

This is a good idea. Chances are the Delta Queen website has not been
updated because there is no one at the DQ offices in New Orleans. Most
every cruise line (Miami and LA based) have a contingency plan in case a
natural disaster strikes their home office. They are a business and they
have to keep things rolling no matter what. Usually reservations and
operations are switched to a satellite office miles away or even in another
state. Since DQ's parent company is based in DE, chances are they might be
taking over the daily operations of the line.
I really don't think there is any possibility of the DQ steamboats returning
to New Orleans in the next few weeks. There is just too much to deal with
there right now and the last thing they need to worry about are cruise ship
passengers and tourism. That will come in time when the basic
infrastructure is up and running again. This is not to say that as a paying
passenger you don't deserve to be kept in the loop about your vacation
plans. It's not your fault a hurricane hit, and at the very least you
should be provided with a schedule update or the chance to reschedule or
cancel without penalty. Hopefully you will hear something soon.

| | Guest | American Queen to New Orleans leaving this Sat. OK, are river boat cruises the same as ocean cruises as far as changing
ports due to weather?
Why can't they say due to weather, were headed North....

In this case, they could, although it would play havoc with passengers'
flight plans on the return.

| | Guest | American Queen to New Orleans leaving this Sat. jlp20 asked whether river cruises were like ocean cruises in terms of
changing ports...
Not so much in terms of changing ports as changing entire itineraries.
As jlp20 suggested, it would certainly be possible to change the
Memphis-New Orleans run to, say, a Memphis-St. Louis itinerary in about
the same length of time. Whether or not that'll happen is anybody's
guess.
