Default Port of Miami - Places to stay?

Hi everyone!

Wondering if anybody has some experience to share regarding where to
stay for a three day layover in Miami before a cruise. I'm sending my
mom and aunt in-law on a Bahamas cruise in October and they will have
three days in Miami before it sails. They don't really want to drive
(or at least not far). I figure a place somewhere around the port would
be good. What kinds of places does that leave? What kinds of things
can they do there without a car? They can cab it around as long as it
doesn't take a ton of time / cost a ton of money? None of us have been
to Miami before, so please don't assume I know what you're talking
about in your responses.

Thanks, I appreciate your assistance! And so will they!

Its been a while since I was in Miami, Sept. 10-11, 2001. To say the least
it was a memerable day.

As for staying in Miami, don't have any ideals for hotels. I would stay down
there near the beach so you don't have to drive anywhere. Beside there is no
parking unless you want to pay alot. I would find a hotel that will take
care of getting them to the cruise port. Also, most of the interesting
things are down in the S. Beach area.. Of course I don't know that much
about the place. I have only been there a few times.

We drove down there for a cruise once.. It was an experience....

The Holiday Inn on Biscayne Blvd is right across the street from the
cruise terminal and has plenty of places nearby to shop, and it's not
far from everything else. HOWEVER, we found it to be rather noisy at
night with inconsiderate aholes slamming doors all through the night.
Other than the noise, it was perfect.
