| | Guest | How disappointed will I be? My husband and I had originally planned to take a land-based driving
vacation up to Nova Scotia in August. Schedules got kind of crazy, so
we really don't have the days available, anymore, to make the drive,
and spend time up there touring around. So, we're looking at the 5
night Carnival Triumph cruise out of New York that gives us a day in
Halifax and a day in St. John, NB. I'm not a huge Carnival fan - I've
only been on one CCL cruise and that was on the Paradise. I had a good
time, but Carnival and I are just not a great fit. Now, I know the
Triumph is from the next generation of ships, but still "old" in the
eyes of those that say "you haven't tried Carnival until you've tried
the (fill in the blank) class ships". We're just looking for a fast and
easy getaway. The prices are great, the schedule works for us, it's
convenient, etc. So, does anyone have any comment on Triumph, good or
bad? I've read several reviews but most were written by people with
very limited cruising experience. This would be my 12th cruise,
overall. I'm just wondering if it'll be a big mistake. We tend to not
stress over the small stuff. I don't expect haute cuisine from
Carnival, but I would like the ship to be clean, service to be
attentive, etc. Does this itinerary attract an older crowd or, because
it is during Summer break, will it be overrun by families with lots of
kids?
Thanks for all your input. I wish we could put the cruise off until
September or October when our Canada options are greater, but schedules
don't allow, unfortunately.

Lee,
I took Carnival Density on this run a few years ago in July. The
passenger cabin decks were lined with strollers. The family in the
cabin next door had a baby that screamed its head off all night long.
The ship was packed to the gills and felt very overcrowded.
The food was suprisingly good other than the variations of iceberg
lettuce salad each night.
For what it's worth...

Our last Carnival cruise was the Conquest and the food was the best of
our 15(??) cruises. I know they are different classes of ship, but I
would expect you will have very good food.

Carnival, but a great experience. We take it as it comes.

| | Guest | How disappointed will I be? We had more fun and better food and service on carnival than on
Celebrity go figgure.
Its a cruise, it will, for the most part, be what you make out of it so
have a great time.
I have read reviews of cruises like the above: " The
passenger cabin decks were lined with strollers. The family in the
cabin next door had a baby that screamed its head off all night long.
The ship was packed to the gills and felt very overcrowded. " and seen
in the next message a comment on the exact same cruise comments to it
being the best ever. | |

| | Guest | How disappointed will I be? They frequently tell people going on Carnival to "go with an open mind".
Never heard anybody say that to someone going on Crystal or Radisson....

We did the Destiny up to Halifax. I'm not a Carnival fan either... I would
not do it again.

Families & Kids all doing the same thing as you. When schedules are
tight and the price is right, the family leaves tonight.

We are doing that cruise (against my best judgement ... but the only
option for my mother-in- law) in July ... and have already taken that
same cruise on the Destiny (sister ship)a few years back ...
The bad part will be crowds and lines - the ship is not laid out well
at all IMO ... and more rudeness than otherwise (whether due to it
being a short cruise or out of New York or Carnival or all of the above
- I won't judge ...) ... and a decor that reminds me of being in a mall
.... otherwise ... we were very impressed with the menus, the service,
the accomodations and the entertainment ...
When we went ... Carnival had a 3rd,4th free (except port charges) ...
it was early June ... but still was not over run with kids ... but was
indeed crowded ...
They are two nice ports for a summer cruise ... good chance of seeing
whales also ... | |

I think you will be disappointed and wish you had waited. You've already
said that you and Carnival are not a good fit and you're trying to make it
work because it fits your schedule. Those aren't good reasons and you
already have trepidations. There must be another "fast and easy getaway"
you can find that will fulfill your urge to get away for a few days.
