Default What to do with luggage after cruise into LA Cruise Ship Terminal (San Pedro)

When I get off the Diamond Princess on 19 Feb 2005 I will have a day to kill
before flying out of LAX in the evening.

I would like to tour the Queen Mary in Long Beach, then do something else in
the LA area - but my problem is not knowing what to do with my luggage all
day.

One thought I had was to rent a car so that I could store the bags in the
trunk - are there any car rental places in San Pedro near LA Cruise Ship
Terminal, that will allow me to drop the car off at LAX?

I see that there is an Alamo rental location somewhere near Long Beach
Airport (LGB), do you know if they have a pickup shuttle from the port in
San Pedro?

Do you have any other suggestions for places to store my bags?
Do you think the Queen Mary would have storage facilities?

What about a day room in a cheap hotel? Can you suggest one? Any idea of
cost?

Thanks for any help you can give,

Andrew Pullen

Most any hotel will store bags for you. Luggage storage at LAX is closed,
but I would check any of the major hotels to see if they have luggage
storage, and what the cost is. It's usually in the area of $3 per bag for
people not staying there.

You should also check with your airline, they may allow you to check in
early in the day for an afternoon flight. Some allow it, others say not
unless it's 4 hours or less before flight time.

Enterprise has an office very close to the port. We did this the other
way and picked up the car at LAX for a few days before the cruise and
dropped it at the port. You could see the ships from the street by
their office. They ran us over, no problem. Just popped a driver into
our rental car and we didn't even have to drag our bags around. My only
gripe was that the Enterprise office was not listed on their paperwork
when we picked up the car, and we had to hunt for the location. Port
wasn't very well marked on the maps either!

With LA being what it is, and public transportation being pretty lame.
Get a car.
