August 27, 2004
This was the 7th cruise for my husband and me. We don’t fly and have
left from NY and Baltimore, and Tampa. Overall we absolutely loved
the ship and would go again.
Arriving at Bayonne was not a problem. My husband uses a motorized
scooter and the bus’s have
ramps for scooters and wheel chairs. Our handicap room on deck 10 was
the largest we have had.
Overall the service was great, lots to do; ship was great, adult pool
was terrific.
The desserts were the best we have had; the rest of the food was fair
at best. My main complaint was that the Excursion desk did not have
accurate information on handicap accessibility. We were assured that
my husband could take the scooter into Labadee with no problem and go
where ever he wanted. Not true, once off the ship, the motorized
scooter immediately got stuck in sand. We had also been told in an
advertisement that motorized beach chairs were available, not true;
someone pushed my husband in a sand wheel chair to a beach and left us
stranded at the other side of the island
Previous years in disembarking, the priority cruisers go first, then
the handicap are safely left off the ship. Not true on this ship. We
were not given handicap luggage tags and were told to wait in the
Ice skating rink on the lower deck for our luggage tag colors to be
called. In the meantime the rest of the ships were going down the
elevators and it was difficult for us to find room in the elevators
when our color tags were finally called.
Bayonne terminal was a disgrace. The luggage was to be located
according to color luggage tags, not true. After much stress, I found
someone who helped me locate the luggage. I had one large suitcase
that had wheels and two garment bags. I needed a porter to help me
with the bags. At other terminals the porters are easy to locate,
(especially since they are expecting a group of handicap people) not
true at Bayonne. After waiting a while, we decided to go it alone.
My husband dragged the large suitcase with his scooter and I had the
garment bags over my husband’s walker that I brought along. At that
point I lost it and screamed that this was a disgrace having a
handicap person struggle with luggage. A customs agent came to my
rescue and carried the suitcase to the exit ramp.
Would we go again, you bet. It was really a great cruise. I will
once again write a letter of complaint
to Royal Caribbean to get there act together.

You wrote the cruise was great. Why are you now writing to RCI to get their act
together? | |

not have to cope with the problems she and her husband experienced. I guess
you have to live it to understand.

Porters are provided by the port authority, not the cruise line.
