"too long to be displayed". Boo hoo. I want to read your review.
Are you posting it to a website?
If not, I can wait until later when it will be archived on Google. It will be
archived, won't it? ;-)

You are probably not the only one who did not get the review. Probably
a lot of news servers besides AOL rejected it and replies that quote it
because of it's length. That is one way they filter out suspected
binaries.
It was not posted by Mark. It was posted by Jeff Stieglitz. I suggest
that Jeff repost it in four or five parts.

What's the best idea for computer usage on the ship?
You mention using wire access in your cabin. What's the price for that?
And how many minutes of internet usage do you get with that option? Is it
worth bringing a laptop and use the wire in the cabin, or is it better to
just use the internet cafe on the ship?

I ended up being glad that I didn't bring my laptop, so in my opinion the
best idea is to use the ship's computers.
If you're planning on doing "work" while on vacation, it probably makes
sense to bring your own because the ship's computers are "locked down" --
you can't install software on their machines. All they have pre-installed
is Office and Photoshop.
Using the ship's computers for photo editing and word processing was free.
Server storage was free as well.
Internet was 75 cents a minute, and there were packages of minutes available
for a discount.
Wireless access with *your* laptop was $25 a day, and they threw in 50
minutes of internet access per day.

for the whole week I think (Diana Ball...help...I think you had it too) and it
was for unlimited access, no minute limit. I liked it because I could check
e-mail and whatnot while Robert got showered and dressed, and all that. It was
good for those down times in the cabin.
Now I guess it all depends on if you want to carry the laptop with
you...although I think you are boarding in NYC....so you are free to overpack!

Last time we did this on Celebrity (and it was the same on RCCL), which
was, admittedly, last year, $25 a day was the advertised price, but they
did a week-long package for a flat $100, which we thought was very
worthwhile.
The connection quality is about what you'll find in the Internet Cafe,
maybe a touch better. My kids were even able to use some downtime to IM
their friends.
We've booked adjoining rooms on the Voyager for August 2005, and
definitely plan to buy the in-room access again.

Sorry, Tom, I don't know. I'd be interested to find out, though, as
we're scheduled for a 9-day on the Voyager next August!

It used to be $125 for a ten or eleven day cruise for the in cabin dial
up hookup. That is what I paid. However I have read reports that on
some of the ships this has changed. That they don't have the flat fee,
only the daily rate. Probably the res. agent will give you the wrong
info. I would take the laptop since it is such a long cruise. What I
did on Galaxy which had no dial up hook up was use free wireless
hotspots at the ports. It should be even easier to find hotspots at the
ports on your itinerary, either free or inexpensive.

We're mostly days at sea. 4 Ports, 5 days at sea (10 nights). That's why I
though it would be fun to kill some time having internet access. I'm going
to borrow an X series ThinkPad, which is a baby unit. So bringing it won't
be a big problem from a size/weight perspective.
