This doesn't sound right. I think balconies on the the deck below Caribe would
be large balconies, but completely uncovered, except for some few cabins that
are completely covered. Some people like the totally open balconies and others
don't.

The cabins on decks above the Caribe Deck have smaller balconies, but they are
completely covered and private.

The Caribbean Princess is similar to the Grand Princess, Star Princess, Golden
Princess, but has one more deck of cabins.

Ref,
We booked a balcony on Baja 608 on the Caribbean Princess...So are you
saying that it is completely covered? We first had A 706, but wanted
something more midship, so we switched...Bad idea? We like covered or at
least partially covered because of our sensitivity to the sun..

Default Balcony size on Caribbean Princess

Linda and the Kids had D621 on Caribbean Princess. The cabin was a mini
suite. The balcony, while large, was totally uncovered and totally viewable
from above (no privacy at all). In the daytime it had full sun. Since
they're red heads with fair skin, they were only able to use the balcony at
night.

Hope that helps. To answer your question.... Yes, Bad Idea. Linda said the
ones above might have been partially covered. The deck above that seemed
fully covered.

Those two cabins are identical to each other in size of cabin and balcony.

The square footage, according to Princess is the following:

A 706 231 square feet total, inc. balcony which measures 8' 9" by 5' 2"
B 608 231 square feet total, inc. balcony which measures 8' 9" by 5' 2"

I would expect the balcony cabins on both Aloha Deck and Baja deck to be fully
covered, stacked more or less one on top of the other, as they are on the
Grand, Golden, Star; however, it would be best to check with either your TA or
Princess to confirm this. I have not cruised on the Caribbean Princess, though
I do have the deck plan here in front of me, as well as notes regarding cabin
size and balcony dimensions for those cabins. Also, I sailed on Baja deck in a
similar cabin on the Star Princess.

I wanted to give you a definitive answer and telephoned Princess on your
behalf, but I don't trust that the answer I got (that Baja balconies are half
open and half covered) is accurate. With today being Labor Day, it is unlikely
that the most knowledgeable representatives are staffing the phones.

On the other hand, using a ruler on the deck plan in the brochure, the Baja
deck is slightly wider than the Aloha deck, and if it is a fair representation,
then on the Caribbean Princess, the Baja deck may indeed be partially open to
the sky, perhaps half or less of the balcony.

Personally, I like the location of B 608 better. A 706 opens directly into the
elevator "lobby" area. B 608 is somewhat more midship. Nevertheless, if the
information given to me on the phone by Princess today is accurate, you might
want to change your cabin if you want a fully covered balcony. Princess
stated (and it is obvious from the deck plan) that the Aloha deck balconies are
100% covered.

Tom,
Is Linda sure? The Riviera is the very top cabin deck..the Aloha deck is the
second deck from the top...Then third deck down is the Baja which we
have..If Linda had a D--it was Dolphin Deck which is two decks below the one
we have on Baja with the Caribe sandwiched in between... We had the Caribe
Deck on the Star Princess and loved it..But those categories are pretty
booked in the areas that we want them. As long as it is partially covered it
is no problem!

You're right. I read your note wrong. I was basing my comment on the 700
series vs. 600 series. My mistake.

Thanks for going through the trouble and checking for me.

As long as it is at least partially covered, it's okay! I thought that B608
was a better location too. There are no cabins across from it either, so no
one slamming doors across the hall at night or people with an inside cabin
who leave their door open much of the time.. Although the dining rooms are
in the rear, the buffet and show rooms are towards the front as well as the
casino, so we are a little more midship as a whole! I'm happy with it!

Thanks again, Ref!

There are mini-suites on the grand class ships on which the
balconies are fully covered. I prefer shade, and usually
book one of those. ...makes more sense than using it
only at night.
