Default Cozumel Advice

Hiya...We are looking for some "expert" advice on Cozumel, and we are
hoping that someone can answer some questions for us, or, direct ua to
someone who might be able to help us out. We have been to Cozumel
several times and this time we would like to rent a car and see both
sides of the island. We will only be in port from 7AM to 6PM but will
probably not get off the ship until around 9 AM. We want to rent a
car, head to Dzul Ha for some snorkeling and then go to Chen Rio for
some beach time. Would it be better to drive all the way around the
south end of the island and back up the other side to Chen Rio for the
scenery or should we just cut across the middle road and down to Chen
Rio? What kind of drive time can we expect from the pier to Dzul Ha?
From Dzul Ha to Chen Rio? From Chen Rio to the pier? Is this plan too
ambitious or will we have enough time to spend a couple hours at each
place and grab some lunch somewhere as well? Are there any tips you
can offer if we are to take this itinerary for the day? Are the roads
well marked? Will these locations be easy to find? Are rental cars
readily available at the pier or should we reserve in advance? I
apologize for all of the questions but we would love to get the
answers to these questions.
Thanks,
Joe & Elaine

If you have a wreck there you can be jailed if someone is injured in the
wreck. Proper insurance is required. Also, we actually saw a scooter wreck.
The people there drive like there is no tommorrow, so it's risky business.

We walked out of the main port area where people were gathered like cattle
to wait for a taxi and walked out to the street and hailed a taxi in
seconds. So don't wait at the main area.

We found an artist there that makes his own black coral sculptures. We also
went snorleing which we ended up calling our "swimming with the jellyfish"
people we getting stung right and left.

I've never found the traffic to any worse there that other places although
the road conditions could be better. Once your out of the town the traffic
is no problem.
