Hmmm, that goes against the argument some of us have with "sameness".

Speaking as a gadget freak,
I don't think every line needs to offer all the newest stuff.

Replying to my own post, because the idea of wireless "throughout" is actually
rather disturbing. I love the idea in a person's cabin and some designated
areas, but please, not "throughout the ship."

Is it just one more way cruisers will annoy each other?

Will there be a need to establish "wireless-free zones"?

Do we want to be lounging at the pool or reading a book in the library and hear
the clackety-clack of someone on a keyboard, or worse, playing a computer game,
or what if they have the sound turned on and they are surfing the net and come
across websites with music?

All ships have plumbing. All ships have phones. I consider Wi-Fi to be
in the same catagory.

The phones are for the most part in the cabins and in the offices.
The plumbing is in bathrooms and kitchens. In other words, in special rooms
set up for the need for plumbing.

Wi-Fi, the way you describe it, would be EVERYWHERE.

What does that have to do with Wi-Fi? I can use my laptop to listen to
music, watch movies and play games without being connected to the net,
both by the pool or in library.

Yes, but now it will be available in the cabins. Most likely that is
where it will be used. Not everywhere. Some ships have added Wi-Fi but
it can only be used in some public areas. Everywhere is better because
that means in the cabins.

Wi-Fi just adds another reason for people to use laptops, to do the same old
stuff they do at home on "vacation."

Most of us want to "Escape the Ordinary" on a cruise, which may be a good
reason some marketing folks chose that as the new motto for Princess (whether
you like the line or not).

No one will force anyone to take a laptop on cruise.

No, but if you take a laptop everywhere with you on the ship, and you sit down
next to me and tap away at your keyboard, you are disturbing me.

My concern is not the force or lack of it placed on the laptop owner, but the
other passengers who may be subjected to more distractions outside of the
cabins. If Wi-FI becomes ubiquitious on ALL ships (which is what you stated
you desire), in ALL areas, then those of us who do not wish to be disturbed by
them are much more likely to be.

My primary problem with your initial statement is that you said Wi-Fi SHOULD be
available everywhere on all ships. Not just a ship that you might choose, but
ALL SHIPS.

It's like some people say ALL SHIPS must have balconies.

I think it is ridiculous that ALL SHIPS have to be so damned much alike, the
lowest common denominator.

Do you make your living selling these things or what? ;-)
