I agree with that.
The problem you will have is fighting your way through the mob of
people at the pier that will meet the boat and want to sell you
something or braid your hair.
If you can get outside that mob, you can walk down Bay Street. You
can take a taxi (or a jitney bus) to the foot of the bridge over
Atlantis and walk over (or take the taxi over but there is a toll),
and go to the aquarium there (costs $25, but if you can pick up a
local tourist map there will be a $5.00 off coupon).
There are a couple of stores on Bay Street that have local Bahamas
made merchandise. One of them is Island Tings Ltd. Conch shell
jewelry - ranged from $5.95 to $13.95

A jitney bus which you can take for as long as you want to ride is
