Cancun, we have nothing.
I would kinda like to try parasailing. There really isn't anything else I
can think of to do.
Anyone have any suggestions? Know any parasailing operators that are
reasonably priced?
Thanx

| | Guest | Cancun! What to do? If you decide to not go parasailing and end up with nothing to do, then go
to the Hard Rock Cafe, have some lemonades and lunch there, spend a few
hours at the beach behind the place, and get some T-shirts.
It's a tender port, with a rather long tender ride. The ship must anchor
way out since the water is so shallow.

There are lots of parasail operators in Cancun. The price is not going
to vary by much. As to anything else to do, there are great beachs, and
places like Senior Frogs, Hard Rock Cafe, etc. Been a few years so I
don't know the current hot spots. Lots of shopping.

Great way to look at it lol. I guess i would like cheap and a good
reputation. But chances of that happening are not that great :-)

Chichen Itza would be the perfect excursion for me. As the Mayan ruins are
my main reason for the Western Caribbean cruise. But unfortunately, it isn't
offered from either Cancun or Cozumel on this particular cruise... at least
not through the cruiseline.

Why not do it on your own, then. Rent a car and drive there. I know
National Rental Car is in that part of Mexico - we rented a car from
them in Playa del Carmen and drove down to Tulum on our own.
Seems like it would be an easy thing to do from Cancun - no ferries to
deal with...just a straight shot to Chchen Itza and back. We did Tulum
on our own from Cozumel, which involved coordinating ferry schedules,
car rental, etc.

I don't think it would be a good idea. It is a long drive. Ignoring all
the things that can go wrong, Chichen Itza is a large site. A lot
bigger and more interesting than Tulum. It would be a big waste to go
all the way there and spend only an hour or two and have to head back.
That is why when the cruise lines had that excursion, it was by plane.

Chichen Itza is about 120 miles from Cancun. That doesn't seem that
long a drive to me. Heck, we took a 45 minute ferry and then drove for
an hour just to get to Tulum. I don't know how long they're in Cancun,
but if they hit the road by 9:00am, get to Chichen Itza by noon, spend
3-4 hours there, then head back to Cancun, they'll make it back to the
ship for dinner. I don't know when their ship leaves in the evening,
but I've noticed many ships stay late in port sometimes. I think our
ship left Coz. at 7:00pm once, 11:00pm on another cruise. When we did
Tulum on our own, our ship left at 7:00pm, and we made it back with
plenty of time - could have even taken a later ferry and still made it
back.
You know, going off on your own isn't for everybody. I'd hate to see
the ship sail away without me. But, I just can't sit around and watch
the world pass me by, either. It would be a terrible inconvenience to
miss the ship, and a big expense, too. Would I survive the ordeal?
Sure. And, I'd probably have some great stories to tell, too.
The OP expressed interest in ruins...I just thought I'd throw it out
there, that you can do stuff on your own...you're not obliged to take
ship excursions.

You have to consider the time to rent the car. Also Cancun does not
have a dock. It must be a tender port. As I recall from doing my tour
of Chichen Itza, you have to drive the lengh of resort Cancun, and
through the Mexican city of Cancun to get to the highway. I suspect
that if it were realistic from the cruise, the cruise line would offer
an excursion.

I do most stuff on my own but missing the boat and any expense from
that is not on most peoples agenda. If his interest in the ruins is
that great he should do what I did. Book land trips to the Yucatan.
I am not objecting to you throwing out the idea, but I am throwing cold
water on it because I have been in this area a few times. This is the
poorest and most undeveloped part of Mexico.
