Default Mayan Ruins Visit??

We are taking a cruise in March that goes to Belize and Cozumel.
After reading posts I have pretty much decided that Tulum beats San
Gervasio hands down.

My real question is Belize. We have a choice between Lamanai, Altun
Ha or Xunantunich. From the posts it appears that Altun Ha is not as
impressive as the other two. Any opinions on which - Lamanai or
Xunantunich - would be the best?

I was disappointed as one site showed that our cruise offered a plane
trip to Chichen Itza but apparently that website was incorrect. I
want to go to the most impressive of the 2 sites offered and would
like opinions.

Thanks!!

Tulum may have better rocks, but San Gervasio has the Zona de Tolerencia
next door!

How about the site, itself, sitting above one of the most breathtaking
shorelines that I have ever seen?

Default Mayan Ruins Visit??

Last year, I visited both Xunantunich and Tulum.
Xunantunich is fantastic. You are on a mountain, covered with jungle. The
climb up and down the pyramid is a bit of a challenge. But the view is worth
every step!!!
Tulum is not like Xunantunich at all. However, the view there is also
spectacular, abousletely breath taking. I didn't have the time, was too
absorbed with the ruins, but it is a short walk down to the beach. And that
looked like a great place to visit too.
The added bonus, at Xunantunich, was having along a husband, who is very
unconfortable with heights, and yet allowed me to persuade him to go to the top
of the pyramid. Once there he spent the whole time saying to everyone, "Get
back, get away from the edge. You're going to fall." As he "clung" to part of
the building<GGG> People were sitting on the edge, leaning over, walking
around, etc., and he was obsessed that someone would fall off.
My only complaint, not enough time at either place. I would love to have a
full day at each place and thoroughly explore. But then as a historian, I tend
to do considerable pre visit research and want to investigate every little nook
and crany.

Gloria

I have been to quite a few of the Mayan sites and I don't see how Paul
can call it boring. The coast location is stunning, and different than
other sites. It is a small site but that makes it perfect for the short
visits you get when you do it from a cruise ship.

I've been watching Celebrity Mole Yucatan, and I have to say, The pictures I
have seen of the area (Especially Tulum and Xcaret) do not do it as much
justice as actual video does :-)

Helps get me more excited about our trip in April (Like I need anything to
help get me MORE excited lol)
