| | Guest | Grand Cayman shore excursions We took a yacht trip in Grand Cayman. It was fun and about $100 each.
Would recommend it. | |

and you snorkle and feed the rays.

| | Guest | Grand Cayman shore excursions You can also enjoy seeing the stingrays from the boat, altho it is much
more fun in the water.

Worst case is a hickey on your hand if you panic when you feed them ...
Be seeing you

Where they took us, it was more like 3.5 METERS of water.

They usually only "sting" if you step on them. The ones we are talking
are very docile.

Sting Ray City is a "make a memory" you really don't want to miss.
There are actually two places you can be taken. We were staying at a
resort on the east end of the island, and we took a catamaran that
visited both. One location, the one referred to in this thread, is on
a shallow sand bar where you can easily stand up without your snorkle
mask and see the dark shadows scooting around on the white sandy
bottom. The other location is in about 12 feet of water. When I put my
flotation vest on, it had a long strap I didn't tuck out of the way,
and the strap kept grazing the insides of my thighs when I got in the
water. Since it takes a little bit of time to get used to snorkeling
when you don't do it a whole lot, I was concentrating on the breathing
stuff while the strap kept distracting me . . and I was wierded out by
the possibility that a sting ray was trying to swim between my legs!
Moral of the story: Go, but tuck in any maverick straps. . . :-)
Also, I talked to a local who took his wife to Sting Ray City. She
absolutely hates the smell of squid, which is what they feed the rays
as part of the tourist experience. He put some in her hand,
instructing her to keep her hand completely straight, palm up, and
assured her that the rays would only suck up the squid without taking
her fingers. But she hated the squid so much that, without thinking,
she shook it off into the water and wiped her hand on her bathing
suit, her arm, her leg. . . and came home with a number of hickeys all
over her body!
Now that's the stuff of which nightmares are made, methinks. . .
But at any rate, don't miss the #1 fun thing to do in the Caymans.
#2 is visiting the Tortuga Rum Factory where you can taste good rum
and eat various flavors of rum cake to your heart's content. The rum
you buy gets delivered to your cabin the night before you disembark.
(However, if your cruise ship is offering duty free Cruzan rum, get
that instead. It's better than Tortuga.)
Have fun!

'We will be on the Coral Princess in February. Would be interested in
any suggestions for 'outstanding' shore excusions in Grand Cayman or
ones that should be avoided at all costs.'
Try Stingray City
While there you will be "out standing" in the water...... | |
