Default TSA locked luggage!

I had my luggage opened & inspected after it left my possession at the Tampa
airport. TSA then put a cable through the zippers and locked it. When I arrived
at Pittsburgh, I couldn't open it to get my heavy jacket out. Next time I'm
putting scissors in an outside pocket:) That has never happened before...but I
had several chargers in my luggage for cell phone, camera, etc. Guess they
looked suspicious when scanned. Do they normally lock it like that?

I had the same thing happen to me, flying from Chicago to Ft Lauderdale... I
had no locks on my luggage, but when I got to my hotel in FL, I noticed that
the zippers were locked with cable ties. I had no scissors, or anything else
to open it up, and had to borrow one from the front desk of the hotel. I
understand why they do it, but it CAN be a PIA!

Yes it's normal if they need to examine your suitcase, or they are just
bored and want to look even without scanning it.

They are supposed to put a note inside and a TSA tie to secure it.

They're supposed to, but don't always. Nail clippers work fine for cutting
the plastic ties used by TSA. It might be easier to slip a pair of nail
clippers in an outside pocket.

I slip a car key in the loop and twist until it breaks. The tie that is.

Mike,on our return from Santiago, Chile, they opened one of our suitcases in
Miami. We had locked it before boarding in Santiago and they left no note
nor a plastic tie. Our padlock was missing so that is how we knew that they
had opened it.
Our son returned from a flight from Boston recently and one of his suitcases
had a blue plastic TSA tag with a number printed on it in white, but no note
inside either.

Default TSA locked luggage!

Great idea...never thought of that. The TSA did leave a note in my luggage
along with the numbered blue security tie. They also removed all my chargers
from the pocket they were tucked into & they were spread out across my clothes.

Default TSA locked luggage!

We were heading to the softball world series this year, from boston to
lousiville ky and both coming and going the bags were checked by TSA, we had
a note and a blue tag on them, no problem at all.

You can buy those TSA locks at brookstone I think 2 for 20, TSA has the
codes and that way the same lock remains on the luggage

Regards

Their requirement is that they leave a card saying they were there. I'm
guessing more often then not they do not leave the card.
