Attention Sue!!!! Do not do this!!!
If you reformat the card you will lose your pictures.
Rather than connecting your camera directly to your PC,
find a friendly camera geek with a card reader. You should
be able to get the pictures off the card that way. Alternatively
take the card to a place like Costco or Ritz camera, where they
can read the card, and make prints from it. That should
verify that the card is ok.
Also, I doubt your camera is limited to 16MB unless it's
really old.
SmartMedia (which I assume it is, as it's olympus) doesn't
have a memory controller on the card, the controller is
in the camera. So, you can only use a card that the
camera is able to handle. This is usually 64MB or
greater. Sometimes the camera's firmware can be
updated to increase the size card that can be used.
Compact Flash has a controller on the card, so it's
actually smarter than SmartMedia. Sort of like
Smart vs. Dumb Casual.
